Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Datetime

    I am importing scanned data from a windows CE device

    one of the fields is comming in as a datetime

    time("h:0m am",Datetime) converts the time to a character field
    works fine

    I need to extract the date.

    I have tried date, cdate,substring and none work

    Thanks

    Re: Datetime

    Are you unable to extract the date from the datetime field or from the character string you get using time() ? It's not clear.

      Re: Datetime

      Hi Charlie,

      Time(format, value) requires value to be type "T". If your imported value is any other type (probably character type), you need to convert it to a time type 1st to use the Time() function.

      Show some examples of the imported data's format.

      Assuming it's layout of character data is mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss

      use CTODT(value) in the formula like
      time("h:0m am",CTODT(value))

        Re: Datetime

        The table comes in from the CE handheld scanner as a Datetime field.
        see attached jpg

        this function converts the datetime field and gives me the correct time
        time("h:0m am",Datetime)

        I cannot get the date to extract from the datetime field in the table

          Re: Datetime

          Hi Charlie,

          It looks like a Type "T", but go into the database structure and tell/show us what the field type and width is.

              Re: Datetime

              Hi Charlie,

              In re-reading your question, I thought you were looking for the time, not the date. To get the date type from a time type either make sure the destination variable is a date type, e.g.
              dim datevalue as D
              datevalue=datetime
              or, if using in an expression, where you can't assign the type before hand, the easiest way I use is
              ctod(dtoc(now()))
              Regards,

                Re: Datetime-Almost have it

                see attached

                I almost have it
                I can take a field defined as datetime and convert it to char date and time
                (datec) and (timec)

                I can also convert the datetime field to a date field (date)

                I can convert the hours and minutes to numeric fields

                But I still cannot convert the datetime field to a time field that shows only the time.
                Any more ideas?

                  Re: Datetime

                  If you want short time, output

                  shorttime=CTOT(chartime) ' Chartime to short time
                  shorttime=ctot(time("0h:0m:0s",longtime)) ' longtime to shorttime

                  chartime=time("0h:0m:0s",longtime) ' longtime to chartime
                  chartime=time("0h:0m:0s",ctodt("01/01/1000 "+mask(cshorttime(shorttime)," : : "))) ' shorttime to chartime

                        Type "Y" means short time (a typed field holding a time value)
