Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Web Grid component Define Arguments in Data source

    Hi,

In our web project there is an a5w page and I am having a Grid component in it with check box columns. There is a button in the page outside the grid. When I click the button I need to Check or Uncheck the check box of the Currently selected row. I need to know how to access the currently selected row in the Grid and how to read and modify the values of that row.

The Check box state should be altered based on the values which I type in a Text box column in the grid and reversely the textbox values have to be altered based on Checking and Unchecking the checkboxes.

Can anyone please help me in this regard?
    Thanks in advance.

    With Regards,
    M. Gangadhar.

Grid component Define Arguments in Data source

    Hi,

In our web project there is an a5w page and I am having a Grid component in it. While setting the data source for the Grid I have defined arguments and the filter expression is built based on argument variable. Whenever I try to save any grid with Arguments in the data source I get an error message stating as below:

    Script: UI_DLG_BOX:@=wcb_title_var_19205218 line:128
    save(lv)
    Property not found
    p.base_on subelement not found.

Can anyone please help me in this regard?
    Thanks in advance.

    With Regards,
    M. Gangadhar.

Re: Web Grid component Define Arguments in Data source

What does "Arguments in the data source" mean? Could you just copy-paste your A5W code here because you are using terminology that seems out of place.

On your first post, there is no such thing as the 'currently selected row' unless you have just one row, or you have some criteria in that row that you are referring to, or I guess if its the Detail record and you have selected it via the Detail link and are therefore "on" that record. You can't control any of the elements of the row from 'outside' the grid unless you use javascript and know how to apply it. You can't even control anything on any row from within the grid without using javascript, unless you are willing to press Submit or some other button to 'process' the record. Dialogs are a little different, you can cause fields to appear/disappear based on other criteria (it fires javascript in the background), not sure about checking off a checkbox.

Can you rethink your project and find another way to display what you want?

Re: Web Grid component Define Arguments in Data source

        Hi Steve,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Regarding the current row selection we will change our application logic.

"Arguments in the data source" --> In the GridBuilder window we will set the data source for the Grid. We will choose the "Query (DBF)" option and will select the Table name or view. In this screen we are having a button named "Define Arguments". This allows us to pass arguments from session or page variables or the system can prompt for entering the value.

I have also attached the screen shot of which button I am referring to.

If I define any such arguments and try to save the Grid component I get the error.

It will be very helpful if you suggest me how to resolve this issue.

        With Thanks & Regards,
        M. Gangadhar.

Re: Web Grid component Define Arguments in Data source

Oh, I misread "we are having a button " to mean you had built a button of your own, not part of the Alpha software tool. And "Arguments in the data source " as you had somehow added arguments to the place where you select your table name in data source.

Anyway, I tried a bunch of common issues and could not come up with that error msg. It would be best if you upload your grid and a5w page (not the whole app or the table). Then someone could test it or just glance at it to see something obvious.
