Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report printing problem...

    Has anyone come across this?

    If I want to print a report (an invoice for example), based on the current record only from a command button on a form - here's what happens if I select different copies of that invoice:

    1 copy = 1 printout ---> no problem
    2 copies = 4 printouts ??
    3 copies = 9 printouts ??
    4 copies = 16 printouts ??

    When the print dialog comes up I choose the number of copies I want but I always get the multiple of my selection?

    Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, we only noticed this since using Windows Vista?

    No..the problem is there, except that you don't notice it since 1x1=1.
    It's multiplying the number by itself.
    Can't tell you if it's something with your setting or a bug, haven't tested it yet.

      Re: Report printing problem...

      Hi there;

      I already know the problem is there.

      Of course it's multiplying - the reason it's no problem with "1" is because if I select 1 copy, that's what I get - but why it's multiplying by itself is the real mystery. When I want 2 copies, I certainly don't want 4 printouts that's for sure.

      I should say, I didn't have this problem in Windows XP, it's just since Vista that this has cropped up.

      The print settings are always default at 1, but if I choose to print 2, I get 4 and so on. I am completely mystified.

        It has the smell of a bug.
        Although I have Vista also, I don't use alpha with Vista, not yet as I don't wish to get into situations like this. Sorry, can't do any testing to verify, but can't imagine what else it could be.

          I use Alpha on Vista at home.
          Can you explain me more about this?
          Is it happening on every report?
          Is it the same for any database project that you make?

            Re: Report printing problem...

            Hi there;

            I have tested it on 3 separate applications as follows:

            Windows 2000 - If I choose 3 copies, I get 3 printouts with no issues.
            Windows XP - If I choose 3 copies, I get 3 printouts with no issues.
            Windows Vista Home Premium - If I choose 3 copies, I get 9 printouts; if I choose 4 copies, I get 16 printouts and so on - definitely some sort of bug here.

            I believe it may be the way Alpha Five sends commands to the printing API in Windows Vista, and for some reason whatever number of copies you choose, it multiplies it by itself, hence 2x2, 3x3, 5x5 etc.

            I won't have time before next week to prepare a bug report. I am hoping someone else might also notice this same problem.

            I am certain that this is a bug. If I print 3 copies from MS Word, or other programs I don't get this issue.

            Hopefully the folks at Alpha are looking at this particular problem. I will however next week prepare a bug report to send to Alpha unless somebody beats me to it!!

            Cheers for now,

            awj :(

              Hello Zeljko;

              Are you having the same problems with this?

                Mr. Janert I will try to reproduce the same situation tonight.
                So far, I cannot complain because I haven't noticed any problems.

                  Hi there;

                  On my other thread, it has been verified as some sort of bug from the last patch release related to Vista. I'll be still forwarding a bug report next week to Alpha.

                    YES, you are right.
                    It is multiplying!
                    I use Vista Ultimate and it is exactly like you have.
                    That is a bug definately....
