Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Google indexing

I am getting the exact problem as this old thread

    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=62842

    with google webmaster tools.

It has no probems with my sitemap/robot files yet complains that pages are "unreachable URLs" !!!

The last succesful time it crawled my site was over a year ago - and that was before I used any of the webmaster tools/site maps etc.

The only thing I can think of is that at the time is was sucessful, I was using an index.html as the entry page and that was the only page it every indexed. all .a5w pages are completely ignored - even though they are in the sitemap.

Any ideas please - we are loosing a lot of potentional customers.

    Re: Google indexing

    hi Antony

its about time someone else has finally realized
    that this is a problem
    this is STILL a problem
a really BIG problem for an ecommerce site

one that i would think that the good folks at ALPHA would
want to address, if not for those of us that have created ecommerce sites
using the WAS software, then for themselves and the economic
impact it will have on their own bottom line

as noted in my other post
    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=62842

google WILL NOT INDEX PAGES in my site
after rechecking today the current total of 265 pages are unreachable
by the googlebots, according to the webmaster tools data, on 8/31/2007
over a year after i first reported this problem

while i had the same problem with their "wordtool on googles adsense site "
after much complaining and many emails this is now working and has been working fine since this time last year

if the bots for the adsense wordtool can be programmed to read ".A5W" pages
then the the googlebots can also be programmed to do the same
but its going to take more than you or me complaining to google about this problem, its going to take an active interest from the folks at alpha
to look into the problem, and then having someone contact google directly

i presonally think that its simple having to add the A5W extenstion to the
googlebots list of scripting extensions to follow

but hey what do i know

    good luck
    regards

Martin, in the previous thread you posted your communication with Google, which simply said they would look into it. What was the outcome of that?

        Hi Lenny

as i stated the adword tool started working after
the google adword team said they would look into it

as far as the googlebot folks i could get no response from them
and i think that short of me going to the land of fruits and nuts
and kidnapping Larry or Serge i will continue to be ignored
that is why i think that it is very important that this be addressed at
the corporate level - i am sure that a call or email from the CEO or CTO
of ALPHA Software will at the very least get a response
i am afraid that all my emails didnt make it past the trash file at google

i would REALLY REALLY REALLLLY appreciate it if you folks could
        address this

        thanx in advance
        regards

Google does not make themselves easy to contact, but we have a call into them.

I got two 'insiders' in the Google Map arena. Not sure if that helps, they are junior team members, but I can ask if other avenues fail.

                    Re: Google indexing

Google has unfortunately been non-responsive so far, but we made a tweak that should hopefully address this. The change was released as part of 1771-3106, so if you update then you will have this change. The next time googlebot visits your site, it should index it.

i hope that "Firm Support" will install the new update
quickly and i look forward to being indexed

                      if i might ask

                        Thanks for the update.

I have made the changes to our WAS so await on google to make another attempt at crawling our site.

I wish there was a way of forcing google to retry. It doesn't even say when they last tried...

Martin - the server recognizes the googlebot and turns off sessions.

Antony - sign up for the Google Webmaster tools and it will tell you when the site was last indexed and give a bit more info about any problems encountered.

Thanks Lenny, as you can see from my quoted text - that is my result from the webmaster tools - which is how I know we have a problem...

But other sites don't have issues with sessions - is it not the fact that google does not know what to do with the .a5w extension ?
