Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Google indexing

It is not an issue with the page extension. Have you ever visited a site that doesn't use page extensions at all? Amazon.com is a well-known example, and it is still indexed by Google.

While Windows uses file extensions to define what a file is, extensions are essentially meaningless to the rest of the computing world. Google, like other search engines, and browsers themselves, use the file's MIME type to define what the type of file is. Unless you explicitly set it to something else in your page's Xbasic code, your A5W page uses a MIME type of text/html, which is exactly what is used by plain HTML, ASP, PHP and Amazon's extension-less pages.

While other sites uses sessions, the Application Server is a bit more aggressive about forcing the client (browser or search engine) to always use a session by redirecting it if it does not already have an active session. This seems to be what Google has a problem with.

          Re: Google indexing

Any updates on this question? Google's ability to index my site will decide if I go forward on my A5 project.

          Thanks Eric

                Hi Eric

Google has unfortunately been non-responsive so far, but we made a tweak that should hopefully address this. The change was released as part of 1771-3106, so if you update then you will have this change. The next time googlebot visits your site, it should index it.

as of this AM "FIRM SUPPORT" is still using 1658-3088 for my site
so sadly no change for my site

spoke with Julio at Firm Support some time back and they had some isssues
with the new patches and havent updated yet

this still a problem for me

but there isnt a thing i can do about it unless i decide to host the site myself

hope Firm Support might see a way to update to a newer release
of the WAS server software - its been only been 3 months since Lenny
created the patch and we have been thru more than a 20 builds since then
so maybe FIRM SUPPORT will get off their A#$%^ and do their job
they are still serving my site using 1658-3088 the build from May of 2007

                from Firm Support's website faqs

Do you update the Web Application Server with the latest service packs?
Yes, we will install the latest service packs as they become available. Note, on shared servers we will schedule the updates a week in advance to provide you with notice of install.*

Dedicated managed server updates will be scheduled at the convenience of the customer.*

                  Re: Google indexing

All I can say is that ever since Alpha made the change Google started behaving for me.

I now have complete indexing and zero errors reported using google webmaster tools.
