Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Check out the on_init code for the form in the example. it seems to do the loading of the chart.

          Re: Charts in A5?

Although I don't know of anyone else who is using them, there are also a number of built-in functions that can be used to build a bitmap chart directly through A5.

Here's a link to a screenshot of one I use in my Nav_Log application. See the Weight and Balance chart about 1/2 way down. The overall size is always the same but the horizontal and vertical scales are set based on the input values, the heavy black lines are based strictly on input values, and the position of the blue dot depends on the specific loading conditions - if it's outside the heavy black lines you should not be flying the plane.

Some time ago Dr. Wayne had some other examples on his LearnAlpha website. I assume they are still there.

Cal, I think you may have posted a bad link. When I click on your items, nothing happens.

If you can see the screenshots, that's all there is. (And the link works for me.) The buttons, fields, etc. don't do anything - this is a screenshot not a website!:)

I just wanted to show what can be done. If anyone is interested in the commands to use, lookup "Bitmap and Graphic Functions" in the Help file.

Using these will seem a bit onerous at first but it really isn't that bad. It's a little like going from A4 to A5 - you have to stick with it a little before you start to "get it". Anyone used to coding in any language should be able to pick it up. I think it took me about 1/2 hour the first time through to start seeing how to use it. Then a little trial and error to get things to line up correctly. After the first hour or so I was able to get things working fairly well. The second time I decided to use this method (the Weight and Balance chart shown above) it was much easier.

It's not the "language" that's hard; it's understanding the process. You have to get beyond "draw me a graph" and think in details of "draw a line from point x1,y1 to x2,y2, etc. This is rather like my "how do you start a car" example. 99% of the population with say, "Put the key in the ignition and turn it." However, you can't put the key in until you have the key and get in the car. If you want to describe it the way you would build a database, you start with "Where are you and what position are you in?" If the person is sitting down, they first have to lean forward and put their weight over their feet then straighten their legs to stand up, then they have to turn in the direction of the room the keys are in (using the "turn_xx_degrees" routine of course!), walk to the room, find the right cabinet, open the door, find the right shelf, find the right set of keys, pick up the keys, find the right key, walk to the door that leads into the garage, open the door, and so on and so forth.

I isolated your example and encountered the same problem. I think the main menu does some initialization, have to find out where.

Why? They are not proofed? I can't load the ax demo.

                      This message will apear_

Maybe this will not run on vista machines. Because I have MS Office Chart Version 11, and not the versions before.
