Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Well,I have to do that :) , its Ok, I thougt there is a tool for that :(. Then I will record a macro in excel, check the code, and try to export/translate it to AV5.

      this excel maco place the Color Orange to a bar

      Sub Makro1()
      '
      ' Makro1 Makro
      ' Makro am 10.09.2007 von Ralf aufgezeichnet
      '

      '
      ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(3).Select
      With Selection.Border
      .Weight = xlThin
      .LineStyle = xlAutomatic
      End With
      Selection.Shadow = False
      Selection.InvertIfNegative = False
      With Selection.Interior
      .ColorIndex = 46
      .Pattern = xlSolid
      End With
      End Sub
      So I have the arguments for the use in A5

      Regards Ralf.

        By accident I found a chart program called RMChart. It was part of thinBasic a new basic language. The chart program is free and can be downloaded here. It comes in two flavours: DLL and ActiveX. There is a chart designer that generates VB6, PowerBasic and .Net code. The VB code can be translated into Xbasic.

        For a headstart I translated the simplebar.rmc into a Xbasic ActiveX example. The VB6 code is [ATTACH]14950[/ATTACH]. The A5 database example is [ATTACH]14951[/ATTACH]. The Xbasic translation is [ATTACH]14953[/ATTACH].

        Not all is working properly. The gradient style doesn't work. The colors that the A5 colorpicker produce must be switched from RGB in to BGR. I don't know who's fault it is. RMChart or Alpha.

        There is also a dll version. Users with an olders Alpha Five version which doesn't support ActiveX can use the dll in combination the UDC (The clock example ;)).

        Unnecessary to tell that you fisrt must install the RMChart software before you can run the example in de database.

        Have a nice time.

        The example on an A5 form.
        [ATTACH]14952[/ATTACH]

        Thx, I will check it first, if this will (thinbasic) run under MS Vista.

        Regards Ralf.

            Re: Charts in A5?

            Ralf,

            Thinbasic was a language I was just looking at and the language has nothing to do with this subject. It just set me on the trail of RMChart. You have to download the RMChart setup right away from http://www.rmchart.com/rmc/downloads/setup/setup.exe.

            If you install the RMCDesigner you can open certain rmc files. That are files with chart information.

            Start the designer and open the file C:\Program Files\RMChart\simplebar.rmc.

            If the RMCDesigner is active go to the menu Files>Get the Source

            >Choose at Development system Visual Basic 6 (using the ActiveX) and click OK.

            The VB code is put on the clipboard. Now you can go to the a5 Xbasic scipteditor and paste the code.

            Now you will get the VB6 code. This code is generated by the designer and not by Excel or Word.

            Code:
            Sub DoTheChart()
                Dim nRetval AS LONG
                Dim sTemp AS STRING

                With RMChartX1
                    .Reset
                    .RMCBackColor = AliceBlue
                    .RMCStyle     = RMC_CTRLSTYLEFLAT
                    .RMCWidth     = 600
                    .RMCHeight    = 450

I didn't want to deal with the hassles of having to get each customer a registration and the cost of a registration that I could distribute was more than I would make on the limited number of apps I expected to sell.

                On the other hand, Alpha's built-in routines come with the program - no extra cost, no extra registration, no extra hassle. A choice that was a no-brainer in my opinion.

                  Marcel, and Ralf,

                  I was checking out the rmchart software and noticed a neat feature. You can design your chart in the their designer and then output the definition to a definition string(Get data String-just below the Get Source). Then use this string in one method ie (chart.rmcfile = string) and presto the chart is defined. Now since you have the definition in a string you can use xbasic to manipulate it by inserting your data in the appropriate place. Below is the code I placed in the OnInit
                  Code:
                  Dim Chart as P
                  Dim sData as C

                  [COLOR=Blue]'The code below in green is the formatted string output by the chart designer.[/COLOR]
                  [COLOR=Green] sData = sData + "00003600|00004600|000052|000061|00009401|00011Tahoma|100011|100035|100045|10005-"

                      Tim,

                      Indeed, that looks really nice. I saw the option but did not know what to do with it. I was focussed on the Xbasic code generator. This is again an example how important it is that different people look at the same product. Everyone find different things.

                      Tim I see aloso that you do have gradient like objects. That was something I could not get right in the Xbasic code. With the defenition string it works alright. Thanks! :)

                      And again...... rmchart is free!

                        I have to test , how I can set variables, how I can set the input variable, I don't know if I have 5 variables to produse a chart , or maybe they are 10, I'm also don't know before the producing of the chart ,whats is the lowest , and what is the highest value of the input. All these I have to test. All these parameters have to be variable.

                        Regards Ralf.

                          what is the name of active X element? I cant fond the element in the active X list in A5V8. In the system32 folder is the rmchhart.ocx included. The example from #43 includes the Active X element and runs on my computer.

                            Ralf,

                            Start A5, create a form, from the toolbox choose the ActiveX control, draw the control on the form, the dialog appears where you can choose the control from a list. First do a refresh list and than look for the RMChart.RMChartX. Choose it. The refresh does it. It should be always refreshed when openend.

                            @Tim: If I create a datastring and put that in the chart the gradient style is ok. I think the parameter constants in the ActiveX code doesn't fit well.

                              I will trust you on that one, you know more about that than I do (way more).

                              When I saw the datastring option I figured why struggle with all that code when you can enter in one argument. I must be getting lazy in my old age.

                              I like this concept of assigning argument values using a coded string. Not sure where I might use it yet. For now I will tuck it away for a rainy day. :)
