Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Column Span Checkboxes in Dialog

    Hi,

This one has really got me.

I have 'one' checkbox field with approx 40 options. When i place this field on a page, the 40 checkbox options are all over the place. I am trying to line them up in 3 vertical columns. The dialog field component has the option to 'Column Span', but no matter what number i place in this box, it being totally ignored.

Can anyone advise me on this?

    Thanks

    Denis

Re: Column Span Checkboxes in Dialog

A checkbox with 40 boxes is still just one control. The column settings will not apply.

One possible cure is to use HTML. The choices are expressed in HTML, so you could add tags to each choice to space them out properly. Such as:

    Red
    Blue
    Green

Where   denotes a hard space. You would also need to change your font to Courier to get proper spacing.

Another ideas is to type the choice code directly in freeform using a simple lable field as the dummy. You'd have to study how a choice field was made up, and then enter code in the A5W page that would process the choices. I think that's too hard for what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks Steve. The choices could change, so im not sure i want the hasstle of the ongoing <HTML> admin required. I suppose my only option is to just accept the vertical list and span almost two pages.

I will get back to you soon on the other stuff.

      Thanks again.

Re: Column Span Checkboxes in Dialog

        alltrim(lab_name)+replicate("&nbsp;",50-len(alltrim(lab_name)))

        lab_name = your field

        50= width of column

        font in-line style = courier

I was happy to have found this post last night, but now back at my PC, I'm not sure where the code from Omar goes...

            Little help, anyone?

            Thanks.

Re: Column Span Checkboxes in Dialog

You'll place it in the choices section of the Checkbox Properties

In the Display Value field/expression is where you place the code.

in my case I use a character field called choice1 and all of the items "checked" will be numerically represented in the choice1 character field.

Thanks so much for the prompt reply full with examples--that's what I need.

However, I'm trying to do this in a Dialog component (I thought this is what Denis had needed as well, and it apparently worked for him).
