Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Welcome to the QReportBuilder Forum!

Welcome to the QReportBuilder Support forum.

Post your questions about QReportBuilder, the report writer designed specifically for use with QuickBooks.

We have different types of support people checking this board, from QuickBooks ProAdvisors fluent in QuickBooks, to programmers and consultants who know the report writer and it's abilities specifically because of it's parent product Alpha Five.

Between the two groups we hope you will get the answers you need to get your project completed quickly.

    Thanks!

Ok, got to ask, what is Qreportbuilder? Only one reference to it in the help file and nothing in search of Alpha web site.

Re: Welcome to the QReportBuilder Forum!

Went there yesterday after a web search. Lots of under construction pages, broken links and the buy pages don't work. Downloaded the demo which didn't work due to me trying QODBC in the past, and finding no real need for it.

I then found that the Alpha software I was running at the time stated that I had an out of date version and had to be re-started.

All in all a waste of time for me.

Now you know how new this product is, as well as the web site, and we have 3 million potential customers using QuickBooks that need custom reports built.

Many will find it worth the effort to get all of these new customers as we move forward on this exciting new product! thanks for the feedback.

Re: Welcome to the QReportBuilder Forum!

            Some quick background on this.

QReportbuilder is a product that is being created as a joint venture between Alpha Five and the folks who make www.qodbc.com

On the QReportBuilder website it is described as follows

"Forget about exporting QuickBooks report data to Excel and manipulating that data to create custom reports, having to repeat this ordeal every time you need to run the report. QReportBuilder simplifies reporting: You build the report one time in the visual designer; one click runs the report on the latest company data at anytime.

QReportBuilder allows you to generate virtually any custom report you can imagine based on your underlying QuickBooks data. Your QuickBooks reports can even combine data with external sources such as Excel or MS Access.

Unlock critical information buried in QuickBooks to make better business decisions for profitability and growth through better reportingwith QReportBuilder!"

The product has been under development for about 2 years and its design goal is to make building custom reports based on QuickBooks data substantially quicker and easier than the manual processes that exist today.

The web site is www.qreportbuilder.com. The site is still under development. The product will be formally launched in the 4th quarter soon after this training event in Las Vegas http://www.greatstatements.com/sleeter2007/ (Alpha users and developers are welcome to sign up)

QODBC is the ODBC driver for interfacing with QuickBooks. It is the only ODBC driver for Quickbooks and is actually bundled in with QuickBooks Enterprise.

We know from surveys that many of Alpha users who use accounting software also use QuickBooks and that the number 1 frustration that QuickBooks users have relates to the limitations of the QuickBooks Report Writer.

If you are an Alpha Five user or developer and would like to find out more about the product before release, please email [email protected]

            Sincerely

Re: Welcome to the QReportBuilder Forum!

I am switching our accounting system from Peachtree to Quickbooks. I would like to be able to easily import info from Quickbooks in real time to a A5v8 database. Can I do this from A5 or would Qreportbuilder help. Mostly I want to import information about checks paid on behalf of particular clients. Thanks Ed

                1. QReportBuilder would help with understanding the data structure of QB, but isn't designed to integrate into an Alpha 5 system. You would use a passive link table to move data from QB to A5 or an Alpha DAO call to get data...

                2. Real-time? Please describe more of what you want to do. Look at a client's record and then press a button and get data about checks paid? Or something else.....??

Thanks for the info. Presently we have an A5 database that has info about each client and a child table that reflects the rental payment we make for that client. Clients can get up to 6 months of rent paid. We hand enter the payment information and it often is not quite the same as the checks paid in our accounting software. I would like to just have the checks that show in the database come directly from what will be Quick Books. Can this be easly done? Ed

Re: Welcome to the QReportBuilder Forum!

QODB (i.e. a QuickBooks "ODBC driver") will allow you to access your Quickbooks data via Alpha. For example, you would be able to use Xbasic code... related to an Alpha form's button... to access the check records in Quickbooks. As to if it can be "easily done," that, of course, depends on who's doing it but there are a number of examples posted here which discuss the details of using QODBC.

                      After thought:

You may also want to look into the QuickBooks Foundation Class (QBFC)... which is available from Intuit. It provides the same level of access to Quickbooks data, but does not require you to purchase QODBC.

That's what QODBC is based on. So you can always re-invent the wheel and update each time QB changes (annually) or let QODBC do it for you.
