Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: new ecommerce package built in Alpha Five

As most of you know we currently have a V1 e-commerce product built in alpha five v7 -- https://www.alphasoftware.com/shop/i...asp?PRODID=230

We will soon have v2 available for the product built on Alpha Five v8 in the meantime it is running in beta form on our servers http://afas.alphasoftware.com/ecommerce/

Here is more info on new features and capabilities

e-Commerce Multipurpose Application for Alpha Five Version 8
        Whats New

This version has a completely new look for all public web pages. 6 new color coordinated style sheets are included. There are also some new forms for the desktop when the program opens in Alpha Five.

All functionality has been updated to use new features in Alpha Five Version 8. This includes the Version 8 web integrated web security and new methods to link pages and filter the data shown when a page opens.

The desktop includes a Customize option to very easily change the look and operation of the application without any coding. You can specify the page and component styles, change the page headers and logos, change pages linked to some actions such as About Us, and hide some features intended for program demonstration purposes. The company information shown on various screens and reports can be edited to show your company information.

Some alternate payment methods are included such as PayPal and AuthorizeNet. These have now been fully tested and validated and can be configured from the Customize option. The correct pages are automatically shown for the selected payment option during check out. You dont have to code anything.

Quantities can now be specified when a product is added to a shopping cart. You can even customize the cart to allow decimal sale quantities to be entered.

The check out process allows a registered user to easily add their personal information to the sale with a single mouse click. Another mouse click will automatically add their billing address to the sale as the shipping address. New users will be asked to register before a sale is completed.

Shipping costs can be selected from a lookup and the shopping cart total will be recalculated. The developer can expand the shipping lookup option if they desire. Sales tax is added automatically for sales to states that require tax.

There are a number of new administrative options. The internal pages have been modified to work with any standard Alpha Five css style and include a new updated default style.

There is a completely new internal ordering system. This could be used for phone in or mail orders. The ordering and check out process is similar to the customer online system. Existing customers can be selected, or new customers added to the system.

There is a new order tracking system to show open orders, print picking and packing lists, and update orders prior to shipment.

The product listing section now includes an option to upload product images directly to the server. This makes adding new products much easier.

More reports have been added, including pick lists and packing lists. Reports can be output as PDF or HTML.

Additional file maintenance options have been added. All company information can be edited online. Lookup lists for shipping and sales tax tables can be maintained online.

I also bought the previous multi purpose app which I didn't use.
An upgrade price or at least a nice rebate for those with alpha five 8
and alpha five v8 app server would be nice.

                      Richard,

I just received the email advertising the new e-commerce package. After reading a recent thread regarding batch processing I was wondering if this new package has it built in as it would seem to be a required feature for many companies offering a telephone/mail order service where the orders are processed in a batch at the end of the day rather than in real time?

When developing applications for the net to be used in the UK I am still experiencing problems with currency formatting and date formating in the web grids. Will the new commerce application be able to display prices and dates in the UK format without "workarounds". This is extremely important.

Re: new ecommerce package built in Alpha Five

The ecommerce application is built mostly with standard components using US date and currency formats and have the same capabilities as any existing component. The issue with the 'pound' symbol has been covered previously on the forum here.

There are a number of date formatting options in Alpha and all grids have a parameter under "Advanced Properties" to specify if the server is using a different format than the client. If you use date pickers to enter dates in European format, you would have to edit the components and change the parameters as well as "Display format" and "Display unformat" expressions.
