Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Importing mysql using ADO

    Before I start I new at this database stuff, so English please :0)

    I am trying to import data from an oscommerce shopping cart into my database. The cart is on a remote Linux server. I have gone through the ADO wizard and I beleive my connection string is ok. I have tried mysql ODBC 3.1 but seem to get better results, well futher with 5.1 and have used the connection string
    DRIVER={MySQL MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver};OPTION=0;PWD=password;PORT=0;SERVER=remote IP;UID=password
    I test the connect and it succeeds, I can see the database, but when enter username and password I can't connect or get a catastrophic failure or am unable to connect.
    I think I have read all the mysql posts on the forum and am still bemused.

    Is what I'm trying to do possible? I'm using Pro edition. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Do a search on "sql connect enterprise" to start and you will find that enterprise edition is required.

      was afraid you say that. can't spend any more money on this.
      Don't suppose there is a work around solution, is enterprise the only way to go?

        The report Genie says "The ADO Import Genie allows you to import data from remote databses, such as Access, SQL server, MYSQL, Oracle, or any other databse for which an ADO provider, or ODBC driver is avaliable."
        Do I need the remote server to have one of these drivers installed? as I can get them to do that.

        I have however found a work around. I can use Navcat to export the data to my Hdd. then get Alpha to import the tables I need. Its not Ideal, but will work. I would prefer alpha to do it if possible.

            Re: Importing mysql using ADO

            I'm not sure you're using the correct connection string. You're not supplying a valid MySQL username.
            Using AlphaDAO, this is the connection string I use to connect to a MySQL database:
            cs="{A5API=MySQL,Server='localhost',Port='3306',UserName='"+username+\
            "',Password='"+password+"',Database='checkbooks'}"

            If I don't want to use AlphaDAO, I can connect to a database using this syntax:
            cs="Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=MySQL" where, in the MySQL ODBC connector, I made "MySQL" the "Data Source Name".

            AlphaDAO is somewhat easier to use than regular ADO. If you use regular ado you have to read up on the adodb.command syntax.
