Default "The selected layout is locked by another session," why?

I'm currently getting the error, "The selected layout is locked by another session," when trying to edit a form. Nobody else has the form open, in either design or view mode.

I was working on the form earlier, then crashed, then was locked out. I've killed all my server smbd processes to make sure no daemons are holding onto the files, but it didn't help. Any idea how long Alpha takes to release these locks, or how a lock can be cleared manually?

Try rebooting the machine (server?) where the files are located.

It's our main Linux file server, so I won't be able to do that right away. lsof(1) isn't showing any of the related files as open, which makes me think it's some internal locking related to the set.

    Try this:

Open up the interactive editor and type: A5_ForceCloseTables()
and press the enter key on that line.
See if that doesn't fix the problem.

    Hi Adam,

While Alpha 5 is closed, delete all the *.muf files and any *.tmp files and any files starting with $ in the alpha 5 or database directories (particularly the Alpha 5 private directory). Easiest way it do a windows file search to find the files.

Then start Alpha and see if the problem has been resolved

    No luck there, unfortunately.

I've done as much as I can at this point, which is deleting my local temporary files and deleting the $$* files in the database folder. I won't be able to kick others out until after end of business today.

    Hi Adam,

I forgot that if you have a runtime version running, you'll need to delete the *.rmuf files as well.

Are you using the shadow? If so, edit the shadow form and copy over the master files - i.e. ddd/ddm/ddx/etc - but only of the table or set you are editing. Problem is, you probably won't be able to perform the copy/paste due to the file locking. BUT in the future...:)
