Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Conditional colors in report

I have an inventory report designed in my last version of Alpha 5 to show how many days an item has been in stock. It displayed separate colors for 0-30, 31-60, 61-90 and over 90 days respectively. It is a calculated field DATE()-DATE where the name of the field is DATE. The number of days displays correctly but no colors in version 8. This report usually returns values from single digits to approximately 200.
Using the color genie, selecting a color and entering date>90, the report displays colored records at a much lower number than 91; entering date<30, much higher numbers are displayed and in both cases the range of colored records has records that display in black within the range. I tried the conditional font tool and got the same erratic results.

    Frank,

Unsure of all that may be going on but did have a thought (uncommon but occaisionally I do!).

It sounds like you could have "blank" or null records coming into play that have been maybe suppressed from showing but are counted as being there so as to give colors at earlier than expected time.

    Just a possibility.

      Frank,
See attached example. Is this what you are after. For the record, naming a field 'Date' is not a good practice. It might actually be in the reserve word list, and this might be some source of problem. The example uses In_Date.

        Mike,
First, let me correct an error in my message. My calculated field name is "Days" rather than "Date".
The example you sent was great and it is what I am looking for but don't understand how you got there.
I opened my report in design mode then right clicked on the "days" field. This opens properties/conditional genie.
Can you clarify this for me?
        Frank

          Ill try.
I did not see it was a report. The attached contains a report and the picture is for the properties for the calculated field age = (date() - in_date).

For the record, I have about two hundred tables w. a field called "Date". Never ever had a problem.

Never had the auto-complete try to fill in "date()" when you wanted to reference your "date" field? That can happen with a lot of possible field names, not necessarily just reserved words. If you aren't paying close attention you can get some wierd expressions.

If it works for you, rock on.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I was using the wrong field to base my conditions. It works great when you do it right.
