Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Speed form imputing

    Guys,

I am trying to fill a form as fast as possible and am trying to use some keystrokes I was able to use in OMNI Form. I know there is a way I am just missing it.

This is what I am trying to do exaxctly.

tab through a form using the tab key when it comes to a drop down box it should automatically drop down I should then just have to press the down arrow and highlight the correct field. Once that field is hight light I want to be able to tab out without pressing any other buttons. This would make produce a speedy entry.

      I'll give it a try

In the field rules for the field with the lookup, you have a dropdown box - you can change the field rule to have the dropdown popup on entering the field - it defaults to not opening automatically. Change it to open.

Then when you enter that field, the drop down box will come up automatically - you can then cursor down to the entry you want - you will then have to press the enter key (or double click your mouse) and that value will be entered into the fiield (I don't know that you can use tab for that).

You can also look a the auto advance feature in field rules.

This is just going on what you have posted.

Hope it helps a little to get you thinking.

        Tinker,

Thanks but that did not seem to work.

I it still makes you press enter. It seems very basic since simple OMNI Form did it, but maybe it is not so simple.

I am thinking I need to add something to the events tab like on depart?

Matt - there is the onkey event , however, that is a pretty powerful command and would work anytime the tab key was pressed - however, you still have the problem with the drop down lookup table - it reacts to enter being pushed or the double click.

I don't think that the on depart event would be of much assistance in the drop down look up which is where the enter key comes into play

I like your idea though of speeding through a form without the use of mouse or extra keystrokes other than entering data into the fields

I will keep trying in my spare time to see if I can come up with something - but read the help on the "onkey" form event.

          Might jog the mind

            Re: Speed form imputing

Matt, forgive a bit of commentary. To make something behave "simply" in Windows often requires a huge amount of developer time and effort. Here for example you may have to abandon the easy table lookup field rule in favor of populating your own listbox control from scratch in order to achieve the result you want. Just because the input sequence in a program is clean and simple does NOT mean that it was easy to create.

              Tom,

thats what I thought if I go away from the lookup and change it to a list box with diff choices it might work better right?
