Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Unable to place a column title on embedded browse

I have a form with an embedded browse. The browse has a single column. I cannot find how to add a column title.

I open the form in design mode.
I click on the embedded browse and right click, choose properties.
Under the browse tab, I checked the option to include column titles.
In the title font tab, I can set the font for the title that isn't there.
I checked the auto-size bar height option.

I still can't find how to enter a column title.

    Jim,

You just went into the browse properties (general) is all. Doubleclick on the column you want to give a title to---the outer edge of the browse will become bold..click on the column wanted and the entire column will be highlighted---once this occurs then right click and go into the Column properties--you will see what to do then! :)

OK, that almost worked. I entered the Title "Tenant" without the quotes. All I could see was T on the right hand side. So, I went back into the properties and entered the advanced Text Properties, added Justify (left) and now I see Te. So, I went in again and added 16 spaces after Justify (left), Text (Tenant), 16 spaces. Now, I see Tenant on the right hand edge of the column. I can't seem to center it on the column or hang it to the left of the column. The column width is narrower than the length of the field I am showing. the code that appears in the setup is
      <xdlg>{stickto=Left}{"Tenant}

Bill---widen the column width either manually or use the "Object Explorer" from the upper menu to do so. Manually would be when you first doubleclicked on the browse and the outside frame became bold--then the columns can be widened...or narrowed

Yeah, widening the column works and I can see the title, if I do that. But, I don't want a wide column. I only want to display half the column in the embedded browse. It is just used as a record selector. I may just give up on the title and put a Text Field on top of the browse for a title. I just can't get that title to be left aligned.

            Bill,

works on mine so wondering if either I am misunderstanding, you have a earlier version with an early bug that is now corrected, or ...???

I can narrow the browse column to where it is the same width as my text--with the text left justified.

Re: Unable to place a column title on embedded browse

I am displaying a field with length of 30. I have the browse column width to about 15 so I only display half the field information. Enough to tell me which Tenant it is. I do not see the entire name field in the column and that's what I want. The Title seems to want to be centered or at least have about 10 spaces in front of the title text. I do have the field text left aligned but I can't get the title left aligned.

Thanks for the help. The Series Game is over and I'm hitting the hay. It will be a week before I can get back to this so, I'll check to see if there are any updates later. Again, thanks, I mean it.

ok---understand I think---have done the same before too. Make sure there are no spaces left inadvertantly in front of the title--easiest to simply delete all and reenter. Sure sounds like this is all it is.

Jim, does adding blank spaces after the title help? I should think you'd want a title that's 30 chars wide, but manually left justified within the title string.

I started adding spaces after the title. The first 5 or so made the title move to the left but, after that, it made no difference. I cannot get that title to be left aligned with the column.

Highlight the column, then Properties-Setup-and "Advanced Column Title"

                      see included images

**Note that I added spaces in front to get it to display as I wanted

                            Jim/Martin:

The justification will justify anything that comes AFTER it. As it is, sitting at the bottom, it's doing nothing.

BTW, I am not able to open that link !!

I can't open my own link either but that's what I got when I uploaded my image. I put the justify at the top of the list and it makes no difference. I had already tried that but tried it again anyway.

I still don't know how to add an image to these messages. I know how to capture the screen and save it but not attach it to message.
