Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Image Not Showing Up

I've created a A5 webpage with several components and a Image.

The components all show up but the Image file upon viewing page in browser does not show.

I placed the file in the Images <dir> and I published it (locally) but the source code gives the src attribute the name of the file without a path.

What is A5 doing that it won't translate my Image ref. in the published version. I can see the image in design mode.

Is this an Image Reference Field, and what is the expression used to display the image.

      Re: Image Not Showing Up

My image is just a stand alone image on the free area of a webpage. It is NOT in a database or table. It is a file on the disk that contains the logo of the company. It serves no other purpose or function. It is not part of a web component.

      any help would be appreciated.

If the image file is in the same folder as the A5W page you intend to display it on, you should not need a path, just the image name. Make sure when you rt-click and publish that the file is going to the same directory as your A5W file.

          Re: Image Not Showing Up

          Steve,

I'm still having trouble getting my image to display in my preview (lightning bolt) browser. It seems as though A5 wants to put my files into ....LivePreview <dir>.
I manually copied the image there and still no luck.

Let's backtrack. I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that A5 lets me INSERT the image "just fine" during my WYSIWYG mode session. I can see the image on the webpage afterwards along with 3 other components. When I hit Publish or Preview etc. why is the ONLY thing that doesn't seem to make it, is MY IMAGE.

I've never seen a Web tool transfer SOME but not ALL of the elements of a design session. I've never been FORCED to "make sure" my INSERTED IMAGE also made it to the preview destination. I've now spent more than two hours on this chore and I'm more than willing to blame myself because A5 (I believe) is WAY TOO sophisticated to leave out that simple step. On the other hand, maybe there is a general problem that I can not decipher.

Has anyone placed a simple image on a A5 webpage and then had it show up during preview?

I have no profiles setup because up until now I've not needed one to get my feet wet with this program.

            Re: Image Not Showing Up

Ahh, forget the lighting bolt, the image will never show up the way you are doing it. Here's are some notes:

            - if you want it in Live Preview (the bolt) you have to publish (just copy) the image to the \a5webroot\LivePreview folder. Look, you will see it there.

            - when you publish the image from rt-click/publish, it goes to the Localroot location, as defined in your profile. It does not pub to the LivePreview locn.

            - On the A5W page WYSIWYG, the image shows up because you've copied it to your development area, and that's why it shows up inside the Images folder.

            - If you provde an absolute link when you insert an image (which you'd have to do in Source with the proper HTML) then the image will show up wherever you happen to publish.
