Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a=<<%str%
    #AB
    #CD
    #EF
    #GH%str%

    ?strtran(*reverse_words("and "+*reverse_words(strtran_smatch(a,"*"+crlf(),"*, *"+crlf()))),crlf(),"")

    Or, simpler:
    ?crlf_to_comma(*reverse_words(" and "+*reverse_words(word_change("&' '$()",a))))
    = "AB, CD, EF, and GH"

      Tim,
      Once again thanks for giving me what I was looking for. Thanks to everyone else for their help and comments. I will end up using Tim's code because it takes care of every possible combination correctly. Learned a lot from everyone though... including proper english.

        Well I always cut some slack for those non-English speakers, but I tend to agree with you. This issue of the Oxford comma came up recently for my son, who said it was optional according to the teacher. I believe that if there is any lack of clarity, it should never be optional.

        When the Alpha Forum magazine was in existence and I wrote the Q&A column, occasionally I'd also review the submissions of other persons for accuracy. Boy, was I surprised when I found the typical level of submissions was very low quality, indeed! I thought my submissions were less than stellar (and the editor always made my submissions even better), but the others varied tremendously in quality (and mostly on the really bad end).

        As to this forum, I tend to be less than verbose in my answers due to limited time. However, I tend to choose my words very carefully. It surprises me how many times people gloss over the answer before them.

        Just 2 other points. While Wikipedia has many good articles and topics, it is not consider an authoritative work as any one can edit and revise it. And all of should realize that anything MSword gives on grammar or spelling is more a suggestion to consider, and not necessarily right.

            Yep, definately needed either a pronoun of some sort(you, us, or them) or could also have left out the "of" making it "And all should realize...". The green 'of' and 'is' can legitimately be left out. The green 'is' is implied from the 'is' before the 'more'

              Your welcome. Here is a slightly abreviated version.
              Code:
              If(line_count(vLocation)<3,strtran(crlf_to_comma(vLocation),","," and "),strtran(crlf_to_comma(*reverse_words("and "+*reverse_words(vLocation))),",",", "))

                  It definitely does require the pronoun, or the dropping of the "of".

                  Odd that I would choose the last paragraph to insert one grammatical mistake not picked up by Word (at least Word 2000) in each sentence, "ya think"?:)

                        And I'd bet the other 45 people are poor readers who read only one word at a time rather than reading with an understanding of the context.

                              That paragraph, which I never saw before, says if you can read this you have a strange mind. I must have a strange mind since I read it start to finish without stopping once.

                              Having a strange mind that can see the big picture yet also pays attention to the small details, I am unable to reconcile so many conflicting statements from Ira and his supporting act Cal, so after you two make your final decree, could you please let your subjects know:

                              1-Whether grammar is important or not? I hope it is not because I am not good at it. Cal wrote a long thesis about the importance of grammar and now proclaims that it shouldn't matter; only context should.

                              2-Whether to use MSWord for spell checking & grammar or not. Ira preached about the limitations of MSWord but yet announced later that he uses it for those same purposes and blamed it for the failing grammar in his previous response.

                              I really don't think a response is warranted and it is my only hope that, through this repeating pattern, that you might be able to see how this could get old and annoying and maybe adopt a better approach.

                              Not only it's getting old, it's a big waste.
