Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Why can't I Drop/Drop Hyperlink onto A5 webpage?

With all the power of A5, I can't believe that I can't seem to Drag/Drop a Hyperlink onto my A5 webpage.

Sure, I can click and get a Dialog box asking ME what my URL should be, but if I want to link to another A5 page that is within my current project, why the heck can't the editor give me those options and create the link for me. I hope I'm wrong and I simply have not found that feature yet.

If not, this ability is "webpage building 101" on almost any editor I've ever seen.

Not only should it allow me to select my OWN web pages but it should build a link that will be parsed in such a way that the link will ALSO work when the app is published to my final production server.

Does anyone have a "heads up" on this issue?

I have right clicked on a hyperlink and copied and pasted it to another page. Is that what you are asking?

Could you explain? I don't know how you would D&D a link other than how Greg described it in any editor. Unless you mean drag or select a page name from a list. There are many places in A5 where you select a page from a list and it 'generates' the link.

On the parsed issue, a link is either absolute or relative. It can't be both. That is you cannot create a link that is absolute to one domain and have it work if you publish to a different domain. No editor would ever 'know' whether you wanted a relative or absolute link, and you'd have to make the decision and edit the link appropriately.

      Example:

http://www.mya5domain.com/projectabc/login.a5w is absolute - tied to that domain and subfolder.

login.a5w is relative. It will always point to the server you happen to be on at the time.

Every link in any of my applications is relative like above unless I specifically want the user to go OUTSIDE of my application.

I would like to know exactly where these "many places" to select a page are. Yes I am referring to selecting a webpage that is part of my current project.

Note: I have seen this capability while working with a GRID and I made one of my columns a "LINK". It then gave me a list of my current pages and it did parse together a successful link. However in my case I am not talking about a grid component, I am just talking about a "text link" that just happens to be a part of a simple webpage. I would use some other mechanism to place the link on the page but at this point I don't know what other mechanism would work. Ultimately, I will have "way too many" pages that have similar names with only minor variations and a typo (by me) could cause wrong URLs being assigned to the wrong links.

Basically, all I want is a "Go Back To Home Page" link that I can place on the WYSIWYG text editor. I can figure out the rest if am shown how to do this simple task.

Places like you mentioned plus selectable links in Navigaion Menus, placing Images. I agree with you, it would be nice if adding a hyperlink was more like FrontPage where it gives you can select any of the existing pages in your project or add in a link freeform.

For your question, just type the text "Go Back To Home Page". Highlight that text, right-click and select Insert > hyperlink and enter your A5W page name. To create a relative link (one that works wherever you publish), the link should NOT have the http: infront of it. If your home page is INDEX.A5W, only that value should be in the link area.
