Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    email wizard help

    My goal with this is that the customers cell phone number is entered in alert_address and then the customers carrier is selected from a drop down box. I click a button and they are sent a message that their job is ready for pickup.

    I am trying to program the "To" part of the email wizard within my app.

    How can I populate the To field with the @ symbol in the form of an email address? When I try and create this properly formatted email address, I get username%%%domainname.com instead of [email protected].

    Here is my argument built with the Send an e-mail message action script: case(Carrier="AT&T",alltrim(remspecial(Alert_Address))+"@cingularme.com",
    Carrier="Bluegrass",alltrim(remspecial(Alert_Address))+"@sms.bluecell.com")
    and the listing goes on for 4 more carriers.

    I am not sure what is going on. I tested it in the interactive window and it appears to give the proper result string.

    Code:
    alert_address="614-555-1212"
    carrier="Sprint"

    vreturn=Case(carrier="Sprint",alltrim(remspecial(var->alert_address))+"@sprintpcs.com",carrier="ATT",alltrim(remspecial(var->alert_address))+"@att.com")
    ? vreturn
    = "[email protected]"

    carrier="ATT"

    vreturn=Case(carrier="Sprint",alltrim(remspecial(var->alert_address))+"@sprintpcs.com",carrier="ATT",alltrim(remspecial(var->alert_address))+"@att.com")
    ? vreturn
    = "[email protected]"
    Can you give any more info that might help?

    Regards,

    Jeff

      The only thing that I thought of would be that I need to use some sort of ascii code for the @ .

        Sounds like you are asking for what it would be...if so then use chr(64)

          That is what I was thinking as well. It would be chr(64). But I did similar tests to Jeff and got proper results.

          I will repeat Jeff's request. Can you give any more info that might help?

          Further confirmation exactly where you are entering the expression and where is it that you are seeing this incorrect result. Are using this in the desktop or web environment?

            Re: email wizard help

            Thanks for the help. It was the chr(64) that fixed it.
            case(Carrier="AT&T",alltrim(remspecial(Alert_Address))+chr(64)+"cingularme.com",
            Carrier="Bluegrass",alltrim(remspecial(Alert_Address))+chr(64)+"sms.bluecell.com")

            I am developing this in the desktop version and I chose to use the action script to build my email routine. I wanted to have the option of sending a customer a email or sms message when their job was ready for pickup. With all of the different cell carriers around and each having a different domain for use on sending a message to their cell users, I have a dropdown that lists my area cell phone providers. So I key in the persons cell phone number in one field and ask them who their carrier is, and select that carrier from another field with a dropdown. The code then formats the "To" portion of the email message.
