Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    :Report.delete()

    I have a button that when fired deletes a selected report using the :Report.delete() method.

    When fired, a5v8 displays a confirmation message (attached). The title bar of the message says "Alpha Five 8.0".

    Is there a way to change "Alpha Five 8.0" to text of my choosing?
    Thanks again

    Re: :Report.delete()

    Tony,

    Like many such Alpha messages it cannot be modified as the xbasic behind it cannot be had....

    But like every one of these, so far, that I have run across, there is a way to write your own script with your own message.

    You could use layout_delete("YourReportName","Report"). Preface it with your own message, etc. Not as easy as just changing a setting but not hard either.

      Perfect Mike!

      When you say preface it with my own message, do you mean to use something like a message box and have this code fire from the OK button?

      Thanks again.

          Re: :Report.delete()

          Exactly! You could have the OnPush of a button say bring up a ui_msg_box.

          Code:
            result = ui_msg_box("Delete Record","Are you sure you want to delete this record?",UI_YES_NO)
          if result = UI_NO_SELECTED then
             cancel()
           else
             dim t as p
             t=table.current()
             t.delete()
          end if
          Something like this--so many variations that are possible. I sometimes put a ui_msg_box on the CanArrive to give a choice whether to continue with whatever say to delete or change a record or...?

          EDIT: too late to scratch it!!! :)

              Re: :Report.delete()

              Get a bit fancier and select the report from a list. BUT no matter what you do, if you use :Report.delete(), that message will show up, unstoppable, unchangeable.

              Code:
              'Create an XDialog displaying all reports.
              	DIM SHARED vRepL as C
              	DIM SHARED varC_result as C
              	dim vLenum as N
              	auto_list_vRepL = a5.report_enum(2)
              	vLenum = w_count(auto_list_vRepL,crlf()) +1

              	DELETE a_vRepL
              	DIM a_vRepL[vLenum] as c
              	a_vRepL.initialize(auto_list_vRepL)

              	z1 = <<%dg1%
              	{region}
              	Type prompt here:| [.40,%dg1%

              	z3 = <<%dg3%
              	vRepL^#a_vRepL];
              	{endregion};
              	{line=1,0};
              	{region}
              	<*15OK!OK> <15Cancel!CANCEL>
              	{endregion};
              	%dg3%

              	vdlgF = z1+ ("" + vLenum) + z3
              	vresult = ui_dlg_box("reports",vdlgF)

              	select
              	    case vresult = "OK"
              	    	goto onward
              	    case vresult = "Cancel"
              	    	end
              	end select

              onward:
              'display warning prompt
              	dim vWarn as C
              	dim vtitle as C
              	dim vmess as C

              	vtitle = "REPORT DELETE WARNING"
              	vmess = "You are about to delete report " +vRepL+ ". Continue? "
              	vWarn=ui_msg_box(vtitle,vmess,UI_OK_CANCEL+ UI_FIRST_BUTTON_DEFAULT+ UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL)
              	'Test to see which button on the message box was pressed....

              	SELECT
              		CASE vWarn = "1"
              			:report.delete(vRepL)
              			msgbox(vWarn,vRepL + "  has been deleted")
              		CASE vWarn = "2"
              			end
              	END SELECT
              Later:
              Code edited.

                Thanks for that Mike! Copied and placed in my own help file for future reference! :) Why write script from scratch when this messageboard has already done it (thanks to generous people)!!!!

                    Re: :Report.delete()

                    Thanks again everybody. I had something that accomplished the same goal but was designed much different. It actually evolved into this.

                    I have a 3 tab tabbed object. on page one a have a list box populated by reports from selected tables. The list box is also based off a variable.

                    On page two i have another list box which lists letters. It is based off of the same variable but populated using letters from select tables.

                    Page 3 of the tabbed object, some ole thing but with labels. Once again all three lists show different information but are off of the same variable

                    I have a second variable that gets set to report, letter, or label, depending on what tab your on. It gets set accordingly when you move from tab to tab.

                    Therefore, when you click an item (report name, label name, letter name) from any of the three list a variable gets set to that it name. When you navigated to the tab the list was on a variable gets set to that name. Therefore your have the layout type and the layout name set to variables. I can plug them into any function/method to duplicate, edit, delete, etc.

                    Probably the hard way to do things...but it works.
