Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Evaluate_template Array not working

    So, ultimately I want this to work:
    Code:

    vDataHeight = evaluate_template("(vData * Array[" + i + "].vDataField" + m + ")/yMax")
    vDataHeight =(vdata*eval("array[i]."+vDataField)+m)/ymax

    although, I think you meant vDataField1 not vDataField, but I am not sure if vDataField is another variable.

      = "Array[1].costs1"

      ? eval("Array["+i+"]." + vDataField + m)
      = 10
      Stan, it works in your case (and Tom's) because you are explicitly setting the variable to a value. My variable is set to a field name. Please see the attached zip file and look at the script called Array_Test.

      I do appreciate all your help.

        Re: Evaluate_template Array not working

        I'll try to remember to look again in the morning. I only have v5 at home and I think there are some later version methods in use here.

        The post where you had

        ? eval("Array[" + i + "]."+vDataField + m)
        ERROR: Variable "vDataField" not found.

        Indicates a different problem of the "vDataField" variable not being established at the time.
        There can be only one.

          unable to open the zip file. Tested the expression I posted earlier in my IW, works fine.

            Gabe, FWIW: I just downloaded and successfully opened my own zip file.

            Remember, I'm substituting a variable for a field name plugged into the array in order to retrieve the field value. See the zip...

              I could open it, but the table is lacking the dicitonary and is not recognized by the script.

              I understand what you are trying to do. I did a test table with the expression posted earlier, it works fine.

                Peter,

                This worked for me in your sample
                Code:
                x = eval("Array[i]."+eval("vDataField"+m))

                  Tim:
                  This is similar to the expression I wrote earlier, but the zip file is missing some files and the script is not recognizing the table. I knew it should work.

                    Gabe, I had to drop the table as it was not pointing to the correct directory and then re add it.

                        Didn't mean to butt in but you were having trouble opening the sample and the parameters were different to what youse were working on before.

                        can you elaborate on that ie which expression.

                        Ooops, I see you have posted a sample.

                            You get the cigar! Thanks so much! I was going nuts. And thanks to Stan and everyone else. I should have posted a working (i.e. not-working) model from the get-go. I think I may have misled some of you by my less than clear script examples.

                                Yes I see that now. ( I opened your sample) And had noticed the expression before but

                                I think may be you didn't pick up that Peter wanted to dynamically choose vDataField1, vDataField2, or vDataField3 by using the value of the variable 'm'. That is why I applied the second eval() as in eval("vDataField"+m).

                                If I apply my theory to your expression it would change it slightly to
                                Code:
