Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha 5 Developer - Terminal Services Query

    Hi All,

I've searched through the archives and although there are plenty of queries on running Alpha 5 and Terminal Services, I can't find a specific answer to my query.. which is as follows:

We have Alpha 5 developer installed on a Windows Server 2003 machine with a 5 user license and terminal services setup on it. The software was installed under the administrator account which works ok, however if any of my colleagues (who are set as domain admins) log on to the server using an RDP connection and run Alpha 5, they are informed that the software is not activated and to request an activation key for Alpha 5. If they continue and activate the software, then the aplication works fine.. However, if another of my colleagues logs on and opens Alpha 5, they are prompted to do the same..

This is all well and good until they log off and back on again when they are prompted to Activate the application again..

I'm sure there must be others working in this TS development environmet, but does anyone know how to resolve this activation issue on a permanent basis?

    Thanks in advance,

    John

Re: Alpha 5 Developer - Terminal Services Query

    Hi John,

The runtime version of Alpha does not need to be activated, so if your users are getting a message to activate, they are not using the runtime. You may want to check the shortcuts they are using (I am assuming that you have setup a shortcut for them).

    Good luck

Re: Alpha 5 Developer - Terminal Services Query

      Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for your prompt reply, however perhaps I wasn't clear in my original message but it's actually the development team that, when launching Alpha 5 application, are being prompted that the product needs to be licensed again.. (although it has already been licensed on the server, albeit under a different user account.) and not the run time version.

If we hit the 'Activate' button each time they log on to the server, the application runs fine in a 'multi user' developer environment and allows us to open up and work on databases we've designed, however this is not ideal (and surely not the way it is designed to run?)

Just to clarify, we have a 5 user Alpha 5 developer license on the server, which is why I'm somewhat confused as to why the application asks to be activated each time they log off and on the server,

      Thanks again,

      John

Re: Alpha 5 Developer - Terminal Services Query

        Hi John,

Sorry, it does look like I misunderstood. I do not have a multiple user developers license so I cannot attempt to duplicate your issue. I would suggest you submit a bug report to Alpha as once the software has been licensed and activated on any server, it should not need to be activated every time it is opened.

        Good luck

          Hello Cheryl,

Many thanks again for your repsonse, it is very much appreciated..

Is there an 'official' way of submitting a 'bug report' to Alpha? The only mothod in which I can see contacting Alpha through the website is either a chargable support call or through the 30 day support plan (and typically it's after 30 days after purchasing since I've discovered the problem :))

          Thanks as always,

          John :)

Re: Alpha 5 Developer - Terminal Services Query

John, use the Alpha Five Help menu. It contains an option to "Submit a Bug Report". This is a FAQ and the answer to your question could be found by opening the help file, selecting the index to topics, and entering "bug".
