Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    "no such field" error is selective

    Help Anyone,

    I'm getting a "no such field" error when running a script. It's related to the query I'm trying to create in the script.

    The strange thing is, it works fine when I run the script in the Code Editor, but when I try to run the script within a button on the form, I get this error.

    What's up? Has anyone had this problem?

    Here's the code:
    Code:
    estnum = Estimate_Navigator:number.value 'Gets est. num from Navigator form
    est = table.open("bids")
    query.filter = "Number = " + s_quote(estnum)
    indx = est.query_create()
    records = indx.records_get()
    estname = est.Last

    items = table.open("memo_lines")
    query.filter = "Bid_no = " + s_quote(estnum)
    items_indx = items.query_create()
    items_records = items_indx.records_get()
    The problem occurs in the memo_lines table when it goes to create the query.
    I created the script in the Code Editor and it runs just fine. But when I made a button on the form to run it, I get the error.

    estnum = Estimate_Navigator:number.value
    Should cause an error when run in the code editor unless you have dimmed estnum as global somewhere or have the form open. Better attach a sample so we can see what is happening.
    There can be only one.

      Thanks for the quick reply,

      It's just the opposite, it causes the error when it is ran in the form.

      yes, I have the form open. If not, I get a different error.
      That's why I thought it would be no problem just make a button to run the working script.
      I'll work on packaging it up so you can see.

        I've tried to zip up just a few files, but I don't know what I'm doing, and it's not worth the trouble for me to figure it out.
        Thanks for your willingness to help.

            Thanks for the suggestion, and I tried it, but that didn't work either.
            The problem doesn't seem to be in the estname variable because it works on the "bids" table.
            Code:
            query.filter = "Number = " + s_quote(estnum)
            indx = est.query_create()
            When I debug it, I get:
            Code:
            Bid_no = "01896"
            Where 01896 is the correct bid number. And this is the same syntax when I do a filter query just regularly.
            Go figure.

              Try this:
              Code:
              estnum = Estimate_Navigator:number.value 'Gets est. num from Navigator form
              est = table.open("bids")
              query.filter = "Number = " + s_quote(estnum)
              indx = est.query_create()
              records = indx.records_get()
              estname = est.Last
              [B]query.order=""[/B]
              items = table.open("memo_lines")
              query.filter = "Bid_no = " + s_quote(estnum)
              items_indx = items.query_create()
              items_records = items_indx.records_get()

                Re: "no such field" error is selective

                That work!!

                When I debugged it, query.order variable was
                Code:
                query.order = DATE
                now it's "".

                When query ran, it was probably still trying to sort things by the DATE field, which doesn't exist in the Memo_lines database. How many times do I have to be told to declare everything in a query. Maybe now I'll learn.

                It's still interesting that it doesn't have the problem when I'm running the script in the Code Editor window.

                Thanks again.

                  Re: "no such field" error is selective

                  Brad, the values assigned to

                  query.filter
                  query.order
                  qurery.options

                  persist. They're global.

                  You should always set or re-set all three when running a query. Otherwise your present query will be using options, filter, or order parameters from a previous query.
