Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Radio Buttons and conditional Properties

I have searched the Help/ Tutorials as well as the posts here and am unable to find an answer to my question.

I am trying to re-create the Print Invoice form in the Alpha Sports example (the one with the radio buttons that gives you choices for printing a report, based on your selection). I have copied formulas and tried to re-create that form, but I still can't make it work in my db. The Conditional Properties box doesn't recognize (or see them as valid) the condition expressions (Var->option=1) that were used in the Alpha Sports example. Since I know next to nothing about codes and programming, I suspect I may be missing a piece of the puzzle.

My desired end result: a form that gives 3 options for printing a report:
    All Reports|1
    Range of Dates|2
    Site Location|3

I know this is probably a multi-layer project, but can someone help me get started in the right direction? And tell me how many places I have to add code? Thanks.

Re: Radio Buttons and conditional Properties

(Var->option=1 should be (Var->option='1') use only the syntax (terms) used in the sample when the dialog displays.

Re: Radio Buttons and conditional Properties

When I put in Var->option = '1', the expression builder for my condition expression says that that is "invalid or incomplete". I get the same message when I do it without the ' '.

And, when I try to run the radio button, I get an error message that says: "Script:OnChange line:6 if (option=1) then Argument is incorrect data type."

      It's all greek to me.

        Sharon,

This trips up everybody when they are first getting started on the web.

Even though you use a number:
        All Reports|1

The 1 is actually a character variable. If you are trying to compare a character 1 to a numeric variable "option", then the 1 is the wrong data type.

So, you can make the "option" variable character, then the formula,
        if option = '1'

        will work.

          Pat,

The character and numeric variable makes sense - I hadn't realized I needed to designate those. However, when I tried what you suggested, it still said "invalid or incomplete" expression.

I just realized I posted to the "web" forum rather than the "desktop" forum - will that make a difference in what I'm trying to achieve here?

Yes, in this case, it makes a big difference.
