Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Problems

I have created a letter that includes name and ref at top and a detailed section of 5 products, name and code at bottom of page. The letter displays perfectly but then next page will include the details section again. This repeats through out the report. Any ideas?

    Re: Report Problems

    Hi Graham,

I am afraid we are going to need more information in order to assist. Is this a report or letter? I am going to assume 'report' for the remaining questions. Are the titles in a report header, page header, group header, detail header or in the actual detail section of the report? Same question for what you have at the 'bottom'. Is the report based on a table or set? What is the set structure if it is a set? It would be best to zip up your table/set that the report is based on and attach it to this thread and explain in detail the steps we need to take to see what you see and let us know what you want to see instead.

      Re: Report Problems

using the report to send customers invoices.
Report is from a set Orders--->orders products
The report is layed out as follows,
      Report
group order_id (break change on order_id, start each group on new page)
group order header (contains customer address, order id and customers name)
group 2 (break change on product model, region keep group togther on one page, columns in group 5, balance column height)
details (region shrink contains of band)

it displays fine for first record.. then repeats group 2 on next page.. this repeats through out the reports.

max number of products per order is 5.

      thanks

Your attached zip file is password protected - without the password file cannot be unzipped.

Its the back up of the database. Should be able to restore it. The database is stored c:\database. I added below a zipped version of that folder.
            thanks for taking a look.

              Graham

First - why was the detail section of group 2 over 7 inches with Product name up top and part number down the bottom. That would cause a large gap between the two records and would cause the second record or third record or fourther record to printed on another page due to exceeding the length of a page.

I re - zip you file with a new report dnote2. All I did was to shorten the length of the detail region and moved the two fields closer together.

Look at that and if that is not what you want - I will need a better explanation in order to understand the problem.

                Re: Report Problems

the codes at the bottom are ref for the factory to process the order. We have designed the letter and the codes need to be as close to the bottom as possible. The gap between the Product names and the code have pre printed text which is on the pre printed letter.
The report is still duplicating the Detail region?
If you go to next record the the detail section is duplated.
and the next record does the same.

                  Re: Report Problems

The duplicate records are a deleted record/index update kind a issue. If you notice the actual values in the report. One set of them are not in the table. If you undelete the deleted records you will see those values. If you just want to take my word for it then right click on the orders_products table and choose Update Indexes. They probably got outa synch during development.

You are absolutely corrent - when the tables were packed and index updated - the report as is worked correctly. Didn't even think to go that route.

I see you slept in today after your long night.

                    Graham

I did not know that the report was being printed on a preprinted form - that is why I improperly corrected your report. Sorry about that - but following Tim's advice, your report should be okay now. Keep us posted.

                    Hope so

I spent 20 odd years in the trucking business - believe me I sympathise - how about going in to a drop yard at 3 in the morning when the temp was about 12 degrees and snowing. At least it was warm this morning in Geelong.
