Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed

I just downloaded the trial version of QBReportBuilder 2008. When I refresh the data, most of my tables come in. But a large number fail with the following message (e.g.)

    -----------
Could not create ResultSet from DataSource definition.

Could not execute query against Database. Error reported was:

    Database API specific error

Your database has returned the following error code and description to Alpha Five.
Consult your database documentation for further information.

11025 - '[QODBC] Invalid table name: Transaction
    SQL State is: 42S00'
    -----------

The "All Other Tables" section contains the list of failed tables it seems. They are: balance sheet, salesline, salestaxcode, billingrate, payroll report detail, salestaxpaymentcheckline, specialitem, vehiclemileage, arrefundcreditcard, billingrateline, buildassemblycomponentitemline, pricelevel, salestaxpaymentcheck, itemsalestaxgroupline, profit and loss, pricelevelperitem, collections report, hostmetadata, sales, vehicle, itemsalestax, specialaccount, arrefundcreditcardrefundappliedto, transaction, buildassembly, itemassembliescanbuild and itemsalestaxgroup.

Are these tables supposed to be there? And if so, how can I fix this issue?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Please check that you have the latest version of QRB. From the help menu, choose check for new version.

Also, what version and edition of QBs are you using?

      Hi Al,

I downloaded it from the site two days ago. Not sure of the version (not at the office right now).

dan, are you sure you are logged in to QuickBooks as Administrator? The security in QuickBooks might be blocking the QReportBuilder from accessing the information you want to retrieve.

Another technique that I have used is to build a new project and then import into that project.

Building a new project initializes the A5 tables and gives a clean slate to start from.

Let us know if that is helpful.....

I am logged into Quickbooks as Admin. I have set all the allow permissions to QBReportBuilder.

I will recreate a new project (I believe I had the first time also) and try again.

                Thanks for the suggestions!

What version of QuickBooks are you using?

They tend to have a year and model...

                          Re: Refresh Passive-Link Tables Failed

I am having the same problem! Were you able to figure out why? It seems the only tables I can't get to open are the budget tables (which of course are the ones I need).

I'm trying to create a B v A P&L that totals the subclasses when I choose the main classes. This seems really something that should be included in QB, but I haven't been able to do it without pulling the entire report (which is too big horizontally to export to Excel from QB uurrggh) with all classes unless I pull each one separately. That creates a different problem in that the "Active" accounts only pulls accounts with current data in them and so my account lists are all different when I pull each total by choosing the class and subclasses... If I choose "All" instead of Active, it pulls the inactive accounts too... This is so incredibly frustrating that I've put in .01 into each budget account by class (and a -amount to balance it) to make it show on all the reports. I am trying to pull department budgets that contain all the accounts for our managers to give me a budget request for next FY and was hoping that it would be simpler than this! I was able to pull this report in one company with a TON of manipulation in Excel and QB, but there must be a simpler way...

                          Help!

                              Renee

QRB can report on the data that the QB SDK allows us to. Budgets and payroll are limited in scope - at this time.

Many QB user's that I've talked to use excel to work with budgets prior to putting the data into QB because they can't work with it too much once it's there. And then they use the excel tables to feed QRB where needed.

The best way that I've gotten budget data is to use one of the reports that QB provides since QB doesn't allow a direct read of the budget table. You can call QB or post to a QB forum and ask them when they will open that up.....:D

I have run P&L's and selected a class and used that to pass out as information for the budgeting setting process.

You sure like to tackle the more complex issues immediately... ;)
                              But it can be done.....
