Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Difficulties Using Date Picker to Insert Date Values

    Hello,

I am a new user and am having issues inputting dates into my web application - using Date Pickers.

Sometimes dates entered using a Date Picker are submitted to the database correctly and other times either no values are submitted or only 1 of 2 date values are submitted. As far as I can tell there is no pattern for correct entries: Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not work.

I am currently building my application using Alpha 5 Version 8, Professional Edition Build 1902.

    - I have searched the help files and as far as I can tell I have setup my web component grid correctly
    - I looked at one of the Web Demo grids that uses a Date Picker and I am pretty sure my grid is setup the same way
    - I created a very basic, new web application (attached) to test and the issue also occurs
    - Also attached is a screen shot
    - I also tested the issue using Build 1680 and replicated the issue
    - I searched the forum postings and was not able to find any postings directly related to my issue
    - I also tested using a Calendar control, instead of a Textbox control/Date Picker and the issue also took place
    - I also tried manually entering date values...eg: 12/31/2007 and the issue took place
    - I have replicated the issue in both Internet Explorer and FireFox

I am not sure where I am making my mistakes. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Noel

Re: Difficulties Using Date Picker to Insert Date Values

    Noel,

I tested your demo, and it worked correctly for me in live preview. I was, however, unable to publish the example pages.

My only suggestion is to move the application to a location with a much shorter path and one that does not contain spaces.

For the test, the path was

      "C:\Updates\A5V8\CalendarTest[1](DatePickerTest_11Jan08)\Users\npaiement\Documents\Work\West Edge Solutions\Projects\SEB\Application Development\Alpha5\CalendarTest"

Issue Resolved: OS Region Setting Changed to English (US)

        Pat,

Thank you for taking the time to review my issue and offer your suggestion; it is much appreciated. After trying your suggestion and still having the issue take place, I did the following to resolve the issue:

        - I checked my operating system regional setting and noticed it was set to English (Canada) [I am Canadian] and that the date format was dd/mm/yyyy and not mm/dd/yyyy as setup in Alpha 5.

        - I changed the regional setting to English (United States) and the date format was changed to mm/dd/yyyy.

        - Now I can consistently enter dates into the database using date pickers.

        Cheers,
        Noel
