Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RTF object w. xbasic

    I need to set some text values to an RTF static object dynamically using xbasic. From the code editor (trial & error):

    Code:
    InvestSummary:rtf1.rtf.binary_text ="xyz"
    Error 1

    InvestSummary:rtf1.rtf.plain_text = "abc"

    InvestSummary:rtf1.rtf.rtf_text = "123"

    InvestSummary:rtf1.rtf.Style = "courier,12,b"
    ERROR: Property not found

    InvestSummary:rtf1.settings = "courier,12,b"
    ERROR: Field types don't match
    How do I set the font type/style?
    How do I set the text value?

    Peter,

    Doesn't look like this is very user friendly in terms of xbasic manipulation.

    <RTF>.RTF_TEXT property returns the text and RTF encoding of the RTF object.
    dim ptr as P

    dim rdata as C

    ptr = rtf.create("Alpha!")

    rdata = ptr.rtf_text

    rdata -> "{\rtf1\ansi \deff0{\colortbl;\red0\green0\blue0;}{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss Arial;}}{{\f0 \cf1 \fs16 Alpha!}}}"

    The rtf text

    The font type/style
    There can be only one.

      Re: RTF object w. xbasic

      Thanks, Stan. No it doesn't look user friendly at all.

      I thought rtf.create() creates a new rtf object (as in dialog)?

      I'm working w. a static RTF on a form. I could just use a text object - except it won't hold enough text - finite limitation.

        Re: RTF object w. xbasic

        Should have been clearer. I was just pointing out that given a pointer to an rtf object

        ptr = yourformrtfobjectname.value
        rdata = ptr.rtf_text

        you could use the further commands to manipulate the components of rdata.
        There can be only one.

          Peter,
          I haven't been able to get the rtfobject.rtf.set_font() method to work on forms -- however, as Stan points out, you can manipulate the rtf_text property directly.
          For example, here's a button I just created to change the font of an RTF object from size 8 to size 16:

          Code:
          rt=:rtftest:rtf1.rtf.rtf_text
          rt=stritran(rt,"fs24","fs48")  ' go from fontsize 8 to fontsize 16

          :rtftest:rtf1.rtf.rtf_text=rt

          :rtftest:rtf1.rtf.plain_text="This is newly sized  text."

            Re: RTF object w. xbasic

            Sorry, I can't get it to work. I have an empty rtf object on a form:
            Code:
            ptr = rtf1.rtf.rtf_text

            ?ptr
            = "{\rtf1\ansi \deff0{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil Tahoma;}}{}}"
            I want to dynamically add text and set the font to courier, 12 pt.

            ?

              Peter,
              I've uploaded a demonstration for you at

              The code in the button is
              Code:
              rt=:rtftest:rtf1.rtf.rtf_text

              font="Tahoma"
              size="small"

              dlgOrig=<<%dlg%
              {position=2,2}
              (font:Courier!fontchange) | (font:Tahoma!fontchange);
              (size:large!sizechange)  | (size:small!sizechange)  ;
              <Close>;
              %dlg%

              ui_modeless_dlg_box("Set font",dlgOrig,<<%code%

              if a_dlg_button="Close" then
                  ui_modeless_dlg_close("Set font")
              end if
              if a_dlg_button="sizechange" then
                  if size="large" then
                      rt=stritran(rt,"fs24","fs48")  ' go from fontsize 12 to fontsize 24
