Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calculated fields in Grid component

I am trying to build a web interface whereby the user inputs certain values and the calculated fields are populated. In the properties menu of the Grid i chose add records only but the calculated fields are not being populated in the grid but when I click submit the table is updated. Is there anyway to have these calculated fields shown in the grid?

I also explored the dialog component, however i have two problems
    1. The Calculated Field Expressions only have a limited amount of expressions
    2. When I click the submit button I don't know where the form goes. Is there anyway to submit this form to a table.

Not sure i understand your question. You can have calc fields on the table level or on the grid-only level. Either way you add them to your grid just like any other field.

You have to use xbasic to write the dialog values to your table.

Re: Calculated fields in Grid component

Thanks Peter for replying. I will try and explain my problem in more detail. I am working for a Social Security Organization and we want to make our payment forms web based. The form I am working on is a Self Employed Contribution Form. The user has to fill in his/her name, the period he/she is paying for and their social security number. Then There is a DropDown box with several income categories ranging from $100 to $1500, there are also 5 other DropDown boxes with the following options(X-Weeks Worked,S-Sickness,M-Maternity and U-Unemployment), one for each week the person is paying for depending on the amount of Mondays in the month. Depending on the Income category and the selection for each week, The Total Contibutions should be calculated as well as fines. The form is to be submitted once per month. However, the person has a 1 month's grace period(e.g October's payment is due the end of November) after that a 5% fine is to be deducted and this is incremented every month until the payer clears his/her balance.

I did all the calculations in a table then I created a grid(SelfEmployed) and selected the option, add records only under properties menu however this option doesn't show the calculated fields based on the the input by the user. Is there anyway I can have these calculated fields shown according to the user's input?

I tried using a dialog(SEmployed) as well, but i would like to know if after clicking the submit button if I can get the records updated to a table? Also how can I calculate the fines in the dialog because i realize the calculated expressions in the dialog are very limited?

I have attached the file for you to see what i have done so far

Thanks a million, I have been stuck for quite sometime really need some help.

        Rogers,

I looked at your sample. 1) With respect to the grid, see attached image. Basically you are only allowing records to be entered and not displayed. Since you are limiting the grid this way, how would you expect to see the data after submitting it? It might be easier if you switch your grid to tabular w. a detail view.

        2) With respect to the dialog, your code would go in the after validate event to set the field values. Unfortunately the help file isn't much help here, but if you search the board, you will find plenty of examples. Note though, since a dialog really only handles variables, and you calc the values on the dialogs for the respective fields, you would have to change the table fields to be user entered, not calc (you can't add a value to a table defined calc field). But go w. no. 1 above. It's a lot easier.
