    Default Contact Manager in Alpha 5 v8 – PDF’s refuses to launch!

    I have been working with Contact Manager (bundle purchase) in my new A5 V8 and have experienced something I don’t understand. In the Customer data entry TAB’s the end tab is for recording documents connected to the customer record. I have added several different files types including word, Excel, Jpg’s, BMP’s and PDF’s etc.

    All files auto launch when I select the file in the browse by either double click the line or select and click the View icon, however – the PDF files refuse to launch!

    Has this something to do with the program being created in a previous version of Alpha 5?

    Do I have to make adjustments for A5V8?

    Any ideas?

    Try opening acrobat reader and see if it wants updating. We have had problems like this with PDFs being opened from other applications before.

    In addition to andreas good advice, make sure that a .pdf has the right file association to acrobat reader. There were files with different .pdf associations before acrobat came along and some that just plain use .pdf. You may find it is associated with a broderbund product(or).

    When I make an association from alpha to a program, I use something like
    Code:
    "notepad.exe" text.txt
    That way there is no question which program it needs.

    Andrea is likely right.

    I ran the application and everything ran correctly.

    I'm using Foxit Reader 2.1 (free) from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/

    (It's much smaller and trouble free)

    Fully up to date 8.1.1 and the correct file prefix has been assigned; .*pdf (such as: afile.pdf). Thereshould be no reason as to why Alpha should not be able to launch it, but it does )meaning does not launch pdf's)

    Hi Dave,
    File association is correct: .*pdf thus all pdf files have the corrrect prefix to auto launch A/Reader 8.1.1?
    I think this is an Alpha issue as all pdf's launch from windows explorer for example!

    Can you try opening a report PDF from A5? I had trouble at first with opening reports on the WAS and setting the Acrobat preferences to 'open in browser' sorted it, but I doubt it's the same priblem here.
