Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Why not use cURL (free) and run that from a batch script, calling an a5w page on your web server? That way what kind of pages the task manager likes or doesn't like will not matter :) (You might have to append ?A5W_Sess_ID=somerandomstring to the URL for this to work)

      PS: oops, too late!

        Re: Scheduled Download

        I created a temporary method.
I created a batch file called test.bat. In it I have START http:\\myservername\testDay.a5w

In windows task manager I set up a daily schedule to run the test.bat

This opens a browser and successfully runs the script. But I believe Steve Wood stated the browser does not close. This is correct.

It does what I want it to do:
        - automatically runs my script at a designated time and day
        but:
        - browser does not close
        - need to add security

I'm not using CRON but will. nnCRON was designed to work in windows environment.

When I have the time, I will revisit the curl method and place a curl line to replace the START method in my batch file.

          Re: Scheduled Download

Security is easy - just make sure the page you call only allows requests from the IP of the server you run this from :)

In our case, all internal IP addresses start with 192.9.200. so:

          Code:
          'IP CHECK
          Dim IpString as c
          IpString = Request.Remote_Addr

          If smatch(IpString,"192.9.200.*") = .f. then
              end
          end if
If you use cURL you can stick to task manager if you like, I run CRON jobs from WatchDirectory (well it's a cheat, the task runs once a day and is triggered if a file in a certain directory is older than 30 minutes - since the file is never deleted it always runs once a day :) ), via a .bat file, as well as several more complex file handling and image conversion scripts also triggered from WatchDirectory.

            Hi Andrea,
So you place the code you mentioned above in the a5w page you wish to have automatically run?
            Thanks. That will work.

Yes, if you're likely to use it in serveral pages it might be an idea to create an a5w file with just that code in it, surrounded by <%a5 and %>, and then at the top of each a5w page you intend to call ONLY internally, add:

              <%a5
              a5w_include("nameofincludefile.a5w")
              %>

                  Hello Andrea,
Just wanted to state that your posts #19 & #21 worked great!
Will revisit using cURL sometime later.
                  Thanks for your help!
