Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How can I print a tables structure?

When I use Edit structure to make changes to a tables structure, the table structure info appears to be in a table. I am making extensive changes to the structure of the tables I have converted to A5V8. (Thank you, Cal Locklin, among other changes, I am adding f to the end of each field name per your response to one of my threads, here.)
Is there a way to print this table structure? (I could use Print Screen but it would take two, or more, pages.)
    Thank you,
    Steve

With the edit structure "genie" open for the table in question, drag select as you would in a spreadsheet. Ctrl-C to copy. Open a spreadsheet program, paste.
    There can be only one.

OHHHHH, MAAAANNN! (It's a quote. If you have a little one and have watched Dora with your little one, you'll understand.)
Where do you find this stuff? I searched the documentation and the forums and didn't find it.
Jeez, that's so easy... and think about it: I can copy the table structure, paste to Excel, export to a .dbf file, and can then use it in A5V8. A table of my table structure, heh, heh. (Now, I've gotta try it.)
Wow, playing with A5V8 on the weekend is better than watching Swordfish for the 23rd time.
      Thanks, again, Stan.

        Just experience.

Your task for today is to figure out two entirely different ways to restructure a table by putting a new field into the line up and not leaving it as the rightmost (in the default browse) / bottom (in the structure genie).

Done. Thank you, Stan, for making me look for a second method.
I had already figured out one way last week: add the field in the first blank line at the bottom of the edit structure table, highlight it, and move it to where I wanted it to be located.
I thought, at the time, it would be an inconvenient method for a table with many, many fields; but, hey, it worked, so I didn't try anything else.
Knowing, from your post, there must be a second method, I decided it must involve the keyboard Insert key, since the keyboard Delete key would delete highlighted fields.
Highlighted a field and pushed the Insert key: Bingo, a blank field appeared at the very beginning of the edit structure table. Well, OK, it works; but its kind of inconvenient for a table of many records. I then left-clicked in the Name field, which highlighted the field name, then I pushed the Insert key. That did what I think you were referring to: added a blank line in the edit structure table just above the field whose name was highlighted.
Although the field is added to the default browse, I know I must use the "Column" function to add it to any custom browses.
In another post, Cal Locklin was kind enough to point me to a portion of his website dealing with naming conventions. Using his info, I added an "f" to the end of field names in several of my tables. Doing that to all the fields in a table made me delete and redo the custom browses.
Adding the "f" to the end of one field name, then losing its data, made me discover I could "recapture" that field in a custom browse by highlighting the field name in the column, opening "Column Properties" with a right-click, adding the "f" to the field names in Column Title and Object Name, and adding the table name and field name to Field Name.

Thanks, again, Stan, for making me find the second solution to your task.

Re: How can I print a tables structure?

Glad you get the whole point. Often there is more than one way to accomplish an objective. Unless you save your changes, not meaning to, there is little if any drawback to trying something.

Hey, this structure editor looks a bit like a spreadsheet, let's see if it behaves anything like one.

Create a table definition in a spreadsheet, copy and paste it into the editor - sure.
Create index definitions in a spreadsheet, copy and paste them into the index builder - sure.
Creating a bunch of calculated fields that vary slightly and could use the search and replace functionality of a spreadsheet - copy the calculated field definition from the builder, do the individual modifications in a spreadsheet cell, copy the cell contents, paste into the calculated field builder.

Many times copy, cut, and paste are available even if they are not indicated by a menu choice or right-click context sensitive menu.

            Enjoy.
            There can be only one.

Well, well, a third way to add a field.
Thanks, Stan; that hadn't occurred to me.
And.... I am, and will continue, to ENJOY.
