Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    "Cannot load browse" error

I have a form based on a one-to-one set, and a browse based on the same set. Independently they both work without a hitch; but I need to embed the saved browse in the form. When I do that, I get an error that says, "Warning: Cannot load browse: CoteBr" (CoteBr is the name of the browse)

I can't understand what is going on, there is nothing special either in the browse or in the form that I can see; the browse only has 7 fields, and they are all in the main table of the set. In fact, when I go in the property, only that table appears under "tables" - although when I built the browse I base it on the set.

I have a number of other forms in this database that have saved browses embedded, all of them work - and I can't see what is different about this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: "Cannot load browse" error

BTW, if anyone has the time to look at it, here is a zipped copy of the database.

It's not much to look at, I just started working on this. The database is transport.adb, the offending form is "Oferte" and the offending browse is also now called "Oferte". That's because I noticed all my other browses, which all work, have the same name as the form they're inbedded in. That didn't help, but it was worth a try.

Sorry that all the labels in the database are in Romanian - this is an application I'm building for our office in Eastern Europe - but the tables and fields are all in English.
There is no default form or login - haven't got to that point yet.

    Thanks!

Must be some internal corruption. Delete the oferte browse and recreate it. Problem goes away.
      There can be only one.

        Re: "Cannot load browse" error

        Thanks, Stan.

This is weird. I did recreate the browse (I had done it a few times before) and it came back with the same problem.

Then I recreated it but did not modify any of the properties - and it worked all right, except that fields were too big so I could not see the whole browse. The reason I use a saved browse is because I can edit field names and sizes, which, as far as I can see, is not possible with regular embedded browse.

Anyway, I modified the browse properties one field at a time (saving and closing after each change) and that worked. But if I try to edit the whole browse at once, it gets corrupted again. I didn't have that problem with any of the other browses. In fact, I never had that problem in the 5+ years I've been using Alpha :o

Marius you can change the column title in an embedded browse by selecting the column, then right clicking to get the Properties menu. Very easy. Column widths are sizeable, too.

            Goodness!
I've been using Alpha for so long, and I never discovered that.
When you right click on the browse, you get the browse properties, not the column properties - so I just assumed it's not editable. I never tried double-clicking on it and then right-click.
