Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    file names

    Hi All,

    Could you have a look at the code below. I want to get the File name & path and save them in Image_name & full_address

    The code works fine for bmp and jpg but I cannot get it to work for tiff extension

    any ideas

    Andy

    Code:
    DIM tbl AS P
    DIM vImageFilename AS C
    DIM vOld_Path AS C
    DIM vPath AS C
    DIM vFiles AS P
    Dim Shared vExt as C
    Dim prod as c

    tbl = table.open("webproducts2")

    vOld_Path = dir_get()
    vPath = UI_GET_PATH ("Enter Path","c: ", "c:\\")

    If vPath = ""
    	End
    End if

    DIR_put(vPath)

    vFiles = filefind.first(vExt)

    while .not. vFiles.eof()
        vImageFilename =vFiles.name()
    	tbl.enter_begin()
    	myimage = rtrim(vImageFilename,".tiff")
    		tbl.image_name = myimage
    		tbl.Full_address = vpath+vImageFilename
    		'tbl.Picture = image_filename_encode(vpath+vImageFilename)
    	tbl.enter_end(.t.)

    	xbasic_wait_for_idle()

    	StatusBar.robot()
    vFiles.next()
    end while

    DIR_put(vOld_Path)

    tbl.close()

    Browse1.fetch_first()
    Browse1.refresh()
    end

    Tiff isn't a supported file type if you are putting this in an image file reference field.

    Image File Reference
    No
    V5
    A field that links to and displays an image (.jpg or .bmp) without storing it in the table.
    There can be only one.

      Hi Stan,

      I am just trying to write it to a Char field.

      I then want to use sys_open to open the file in a tiff viewer

        Change this line to

        myimage = file.filename_parse(vImageFilename,"N")

            Re: file names

            Andy, suggest you dump the entire list of filenames to the trace window to see how the TIFF files are being listed. The filename extensions may be .TIF not .TIFF

              As Tom suggests, something else is wrong. Suggestion works fine in the interactive.

              Code:
              test1 = "some image name.jpg"
              ? file.filename_parse(test1,"N")
              = "some image name"

              test2 = "some other name.tif"
              ? file.filename_parse(test2,"N")
              = "some other name"

              test3 = "last image name.tiff"
              ? file.filename_parse(test3,"N")
              = "last image name"
              There can be only one.

                    Re: file names

                    Andy, nothing in the "Run" script sets the value of vExt. What am I missing?

                    Ok. I see it now. You're running the script in the current session and vExt is getting its value from the radio button.

                        Andy, was this a trick question or are you just testing us?

                        The images in your TIFFS folder are read only. They're being ignored by Filefind.first() because you're using the default option, telling Alpha Five to retrieve only normal files. Read only files are not normal.

                            Re: file names

                            The problem became evident when I modified your script to write each filename to the trace window. None were written. This meant the problem was with the path or with how Filefind.first() was being used. Comparing the properties of the image files in the TIFFS folder with those in the JPEG folder led to the solution. I'm glad you got it going.
