Default blank lines in an HTML object

I placed an html object on a form, following the example in the video. But blank lines are not suppressed. Using a RichText object, I use shift-enter at the end of fields to 'suppress this if blank'

    whats the trick with html?

    Martin

When I place two fields on the html control WYSIWYG and the press enter after the first field, I see this code on the source display.
If Test_Date is blank, the first line is suppressed.

    Code:
    <p>{Test_Date}</p>
    <p>{System-&gt;Date} </p>
If I drop the paragraph attributes and use a break <br>, then I get a blank first line when the Test_Date is blank.
    Code:
    {Test_Date}<br>
    {System-&gt;Date}
What does your source look like? What is causing your line break?

thank's Al - got it working

when it didn't work as expected, I was trying a shift-enter
when I looked at the source I noticed that address1 and address2 were on the same line
so I entered an 'enter' after each line, and looked at the source and all lines were formatted the same - and it worked

not sure why it didn't work the first time I tried it!!

I tried a 'shift-enter' on the WYSIWYG and it added a <br> just like an 'enter' did. So you would get a hard line break from it rather than a soft line break.

speaking of HTML - have you tried the new HTML Memo Field?

I wonder if the records are stored in the same way that RTF Memo fields are stored? i.e., as formatted text in a memo field

The first time the 'shift-enter' put a <br> in .

The second time the 'enter' wrapped a <p></p> around the field.

    Al:
Is that not standard for html? Shift/Enter brings you down one line while Enter brings you down two lines?

I tried this in FrontPage and that is what happens there.

Just tried it and it brings up the html editor, so I saved some data and opened the memo file. There was the html code just like the source had shown along with a built in simple style sheet.

The RTF is more binary and I need my 'special' glasses to read it.

Now there is an oxymoron - standard html

I don't use FrontPage - haven't noticed that behavior elsewhere.

Just tried FrontPage - got this

    Code:
    <p>enter</p>
    <p>shift-enter<br>
    </p>

    Code:
    <p>We change the clock tomorrow<br>
    this is a shift/enter line</p>
    <p>this is an enter line</p>
This is what it looks like

    Code:
    We change the clock tomorrow
    this is a shift/enter line

    this is an enter line
By "standard html" I mean typical or regular code for getting the specific action requested.

I understand what you were saying. My point is that browsers will do different things with the same html. Although it is getting better, but not quite standard.... Of course where would the fun be without it? ;)
