    Default Export data with filter

I have a product file which in the description field has a quantity of "dates" in the discription field in the format of "03/04/2005" and I want to export the file without these records.

How do I write the filter. Hope someone can help.

    Kind regards
    David

    Probably

    trim(description) <> "03/04/2005"

    Hi Stan,
What I want is to exclude any record that has*/*/* in the discription field.

    Kind regards
    David

    David,

In order for Stan to help (I most likely cannot! :) ), you have to eliminate any ambiguity....

    you stated first that
I want to export the file without these records.
which to me could mean to eliminate those description fields with the dates in them.
    and then you said...
exclude any record that has*/*/* in the discription field
which seems to indicate you do not want ANY record that has a date in the description field.

I believe it is the latter you want but always best to make certain.

I am sorry you don't think that I was clear in my request.

What I mean is that I want any record that has date information in the description field NOT to be selected for the export.

    Kind regards
    David

Well, maybe we can narrow that a bit.

Is it unlikely that any "good" record has a backslash in it?

    .not. ("//" $ description)

Is it unlikely that any "good" record has a backslash in it at the third position?

    substring(description,3,1) <> "//"
    substring(description,3,1) <> chr(92)

Is it unlikely that any "good" record has a backslash in it at the third and sixth positions?

    substring(description,3,1) <> "//" .and. substring(description,6,1) <> "//"

    Hi Stan,
I have attached an example of the export excel file as it stands as none of the examples that you gave worked.

You will see that an operator decided to do something with the product file inserting a date the description field and I simply want to create an export excel file without any of the records that have a date in the description field.

Hope this explains it better so ideally I want a filter that says select all records where the Product_id is more than 0 and not to include records that have ??/??/?? in the description field. The description field is character.

    Kind regards
    David

Let's look at this from another angle. Is this a one time process to clean up the file?

Sort the table on the description field. All the fields with dates in the description should sort to the top, I think. Hilight and delete them.

Export all the records, sort as suggested, delete the rows with dates in the description.
