Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Attach CSS gif and jpg files to A5W page

Could someone explain the steps required in Alpha Five to attach .gif and .jpg files inside an image folder and used as background images thru CSS to a
    A5W page.

Thanks in advance for the information.

I think that Steve and Pat have been extremely helpful and generous in your previous thread on this. I don't see why you think it necessary to start another practically identical thread.

If you don't understand, I encourage you to read and re-read their help until you do. There are also lots of other resources on the web to help you with CSS and images. Putting them on an .A5W page is no different than putting them on any HTML page.

I disagree that the process of using css in A5 is no different than putting them in HTML. For example, in A5 one has to figure out how to link the css file to the A5W page through Format, Link Style Sheet. No CSS resource book would provide this information for someone working with Alpha 5.

So you clearly are misunderstanding the differences. In addition, placing the image folder in the same directory as my css file has not worked in the same way that this works outside of Alpha 5.

I have spent countless hours trying to figure this out. I am stuck and feel very frustrated. The resources available to A5 users through help files and the building web applications book should not be so limited. As a matter of fact, the building web applications book does not mention CSS one time.

Just for future searches by others (including myself!) on this topic here is a link to the thread mentioned ...It would be nice to have no deadend threads like this one most likely is to become due to the previous one. :)

Re: Attach CSS gif and jpg files to A5W page

I disagree about Alpha pages. I bought a book on CSS and everything I've done with it has been right out of the book.

I created my first CSS in Notepad (just like the book said). Then, I put it external (like the book said), and just for convenience chose to put it in the same directory as Alpha puts theirs. Then, I went to page source and typed in the link (just like the book said).

After that, I was able to navigate to the css using the Alpha Web control panel, click on my CSS style sheet and have been editing the CSS using Alpha's built in CSS editor and publishing it just like any other component.

I'm not sure what you are expecting. There are some Alpha people who are designing pages using Dreamweaver, then sticking the web components in the pages. Works for them.
