Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using WAS v8 to send email via Gmail account

    I located one other thread on this issue and didn't see a successful resolution to it.

    I'm trying to set up the email settings for the Default profile of WAS to use a Gmail account (yes, I have enabled POP access to it) and I've set everything up to use SSL on incoming & outgoing, port 995 for POP and 465 for SMTP, pop.gmail.com, smtp.gmail.com. I go to test it and I get an error that says there was a timeout attempting to contact the SMTP server.

    Has anyone done this successfully?

    Hi Rick,

    Set more than 30 or 45 seconds in 'Network Timeout' which is in advanced tab of Email settings.

      I have timeout set to 70 seconds and Windows Firewall turned off. Does not work.

        I tried it Hotpop. It works.

        In Gmail account information:

        Server Timeouts (Greater than 1 minute, we recommend 5)

        So try to your Network Timeout is above mentioned.

          The fact that it works from Hotpop does not guarantee it works from WAS.

          I set up the Gmail account on Outlook using the same settings from the same broadband connection and it works fine. Seems to me WAS and Gmail aren't talking.

          When does it ever take 300 seconds to contact an STMP server when there isn't a communication issue?

          Have you actually gotten this to work on WAS, or are we just discussing theory?

            Its not theory Rick, I was able to sent mail only through the Hotpop profile using WAS.

            But as for as I tried, it did not work for Gmail settings.

                Rick you do have the email profile on the WAS set to use the Internal Alpha 5 to send/receive and not to use Outlook? I have not used gmail but I have made that error when setting up a profile to connect to our email servers.

                  Yes, it's set to use the Alpha internal send/receive.

                    Then the only other thing I can think of is that your ISP may be blocking the outgoing. You might want to call them.

                      Sorry I see that you have successfully used outlook with the same settings so it can't be your ISP

                          It works fine with our email accounts as well but we set it up on the regular ports (except we use 2525 for SMTP to avoid ISP blocks). I have not tried setting it up with the ssl ports.

                            I must admit I haven't managed to use an Email profile on WAS to send emails from web forms etc... Always just used email_smtp_send :)

                            Gmail works fine from A5 though... I wonder if the SSL setting ends up "confusing" WAS? Will try it out...

                              OK, well it works for me using:

                              Code:
                              Dim LFlag as L
                              Dim ps as P
                              Dim pm as P

                              LFlag = email_smtp_open(ps, "smtp.gmail.com", 465, username,password,"SSL")
                              If LFlag = .f. then
                                  ?"Failed Email Connection"
                              end if
                              pm.to = EmailTo
                              pm.from_alias = "Test"
                              pm.from = GmailEmail
                              pm.subject = "Gmail Test"
                              pm.message = "TEST"

                              email_smtp_send(pm, ps, .t.,.t.)
                              email_smtp_close(ps)
