Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How do you print labels with bitmap background?

I am trying to make a small application to print Name Tags with a bitmap background. Every attempt to configure this properly ends up with a preview or printout without the bitmap background printing. I can see the bitmap background I selected in the Design mode, but the bitmap does not appear as background in the preview or printout. Has anyone been able to get this function to work?

I have attached one jpg showing properties configured for background of label and second jpg showing preview of labels generated.

    Thanks for your help,
    Ted

    Ted,

What happens in the label properties if you click on File instead of embedded. Just to test it.

      Hi Ed,

Thank you for looking into this.

When I click on file instead, I get the same results.

What happens if you use a different JPG file just to test. Try a few to see what happens.

I am not a expert, but it could be the properties of the JPG.

          Hi Ed,

I tried different jpg's and bmp's from differenct sources. All with the same results. I even tried some Library files. All resulted the same with the fields being printed without the bitmap background.

          Ted.

Try resizing the image on the label. Shrink it a bit.

              Hi Ed,

I have tried various sized images (smaller that label size to larger than label size) with different characteristics (absolute, best fit, stretch, etc.) with no change to the results.

                Ted,

Instead of using a "Label", create it in a Report and then set the "order" to be in front.

Re: How do you print labels with bitmap background?

What I meant is take one of the files and make the size of the image on the label smaller where it is away from all of the sides of the label.

Past that, maybe someone else can lead you in the right direction.

                  Regards

                  Ed

My Mistake--you can do it with a label also --it is the RTF that is the problem.

Just use normal fields and it will work.

Don't use the image as backdrop.
Instead, drag-drop the image icon from the toolbox to the lable, then specify the image and use best fit.
                      It works

                        Hi Ed & Mike,

I figured it out with your help. I finally triggered on the fact that instead of using backdrop properties of the label, I tried using a bitmap image element and set its properties. This works.

Thanks for your input and questions which got me thinking along a different track.

I got your post just after I figured out the same solution.

                          I appreciate your response.

Glad you figured it out. Just takes a little playing now and then.

Keep coming back, there are lots of ideas here.

                            Have a good weekend.
