Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help with Email_send2 from address

    I am using email_send2 to send emails form my virtual web server, which is running Alpha V version 7 using a web form. Everything is working fine, except I cannot get the "from" field to work. It just shows the default from email address set in Alpha V on the server. I made a new profile with no "from" address in it and specified that profile, but the email was still sent from the other profile. Does anyone have an idea why it is not working? Another issue is that although I have set up an email profile previously and it is working, I cannot now "see" it on the server", although it is still working. I am running Alpha V Version 7 Build 4130.
    Here is the code running within the web page:

    Code:
    dim email_addr as c
    dim tbl as P
    dim email_body_main as c
    dim email_subject as c
    dim email_close as c
    dim title as c
    dim name as c
    dim city as c
    dim state as c

    tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\rosterne_web")
    query.filter = "invoice_num = \"" + session.cinvoice_num + "\" "
    query.order = ""
    indx = tbl.query_create()
    email_addr=tbl.eval("E_mail")
    email_body_main = tbl.eval("Notes")
    email_subject=tbl.eval("New_field4")
    email_close=tbl.eval("New_field6")
    title=tbl.eval("title")
    Name=tbl.eval("familyname")
    City=tbl.eval("city")
    State=tbl.eval("state")
    tbl.close()
    dim email_body as c
    email_body="Dear Councilmember"+crlf(2)+email_body_main+crlf(2)+email_close+crlf(2)+alltrim(title)+" "+alltrim(Name)+crlf()+alltrim(City)+","+alltrim(State)
    email_send(email_addr, email_subject, email_body, "", "",comp_email, .F.)
    dim message as P
    dim tbl as p
    dim Email2 as c
    dim Salutation as c
    tbl = table.open("[Pathalias.ADB_path]\City_council_email.dbf")
    while .not. tbl.fetch_eof()
    Email2=tbl.eval("Email")
    Salutation=tbl.eval("Salutation")
    message.from = Email_addr

    email_body="Dear "+Salutation+crlf(2)+email_body_main+crlf(2)+email_close+crlf(2)+alltrim(title)+" "+alltrim(Name)+crlf()+alltrim(City)+","+alltrim(State)

    message.message = email_body

    message.to = Email2

    message.subject = Email_subject

    email_send2(message,"", .T., .F.)

        tbl.fetch_next()

    end while

    tbl.close()

    Re: Help with Email_send2 from address

    I have found unless you use an existing email profile on WAS to send email from, smtp_email_send is the only way to send email using a from etc. field different from an existing local email profile...

      Thank you. Using email_smtp_send worked. I also saw that the Version 8 update of Feb 12, 2008 fixed the problem of the from and Alias fields not working in email_send2 (I am running Version 7).

        Hm... will have to check this again then... I just remember trying to use this to send email from a web contact form using email_send2() and if there was an error I ended up with the default profile values in the "Name", "Email" fields etc...
