Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to open a windows window in a alpha form?

I looked and looked and can not find anything on this.

I would like to open a Alpha form and then in that form open a windows window
so i can see jpg image thumbnails in that window.

I have a form made with a button and when i click on the button i have it set to open up a windows window but i can not find a way to open it into a Alpha form.

May be another way to do this any suggestions.

Here is what i want it to do.

I would like to be able to open a form - click on a button and find a folder of images out side of Alpha - and open them into a Alpha form window or a windows window inside the Alpha form. Can this be done?
It needs to be able to change the folder of images at any time when clicking on the button.
It will be showing the images as thumbnails.

    Thanks

You can have a form invoke another Window to display a folder, but not within a form of Alpha. You could use an HTML window within the form that could display a bunch of thumbnails. I'm thinking something like Jalbum (freeware) that could create the html folders. You could also generate HTML to display jpeg or GIF files already in your directory and display the HTML window, or create a browse/form that could display multiple images directly on the form.

Re: How to open a windows window in a alpha form?

      Ira,
I, myself, had a similar want as Ed in desiring to be able to open an external program from within Alpha (which is possible) but to have it "contained" within the Alpha screen...which apparently is not...so far! My feeling is that almost anything that is thought of can be done...just a matter of time and ingenuity.

You can open up other programs and they visually appear to be within Alpha. I.E.; The Alpha screen and toolbars stay visible and you can alternate between various programs via toolbar buttons....but the window taskbar shows all the programs that are opened and if closed from it instead of Alpha it definitely destroys the illusion!

I had looked in vain through all the OLE and ActiveX object links and could not find one that could be generically used to "contain" an external program---most likely would have to get the ODBC driver or ActiveX, OLE necessary for each individual program as apparently some are there for Windows Media and another version of a media player as well....so should be possible??? :) I don't know really and will keep dabbling with it until I or someone else comes up with something.
      Mike

Re: How to open a windows window in a alpha form?

I have Jalbum and that way will not work for this.

I need to be able to open thumb images from any folder on the PC at any time and have the thumbs of the images ready to use.

I can not use another programs window that is open as i am using a stay on top function in Alpha and the other program will not stay on top to for this to work.

I will have to leave this out for now it would be a nice feature to add but it's not 100% needed i can open any window of images.

My big problem now is i just tested my program in Win Vista and it will not work and this is the only reason i am making this.

I have to read more about making the install i hope i did something wrong.
