Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Duplicating effort for every button, is there a better way?

    Good day,
I find myself editing the “dimensions, width & height” properties for each button in my system manually at least once. A repetitive and laborious task to say the least.

    Is there a better way/method/technique/utility?
    Kind regards

How about creating the button once and then copying it as needed. I have a dummy form w. all kinds of buttons, bmps & controls, etc. When I'm doing form design, I keep the dummy open (design mode) and copy & paste as needed.

      George,
I feel your pain and echo it with as much volume of amplification I can muster. You can copy appearances, so why there is not a feature to copy other properties is a wonder. And to add insult to injury, field height is not even present as one of the object parameters in the Object explore. This one totally baffles me!

      Peter,
Sometimes to get the form just so, after adding everything, you have to make adjustments. You don't want to have to build it all over again (with OnPush events for buttons, and field events for fields). You just want to highlight them all and copy the dimensions from one to the others.

1-Highlight the button with the correct dimension first.
2-Hold the shift key and highlight all other buttons that you want to have the same dimensions as the first one
3-From the menu, use arrange, Allign Sizes, Both.

          There is.
          1-Right click the object
          2-Choose Advanced
          3-Copoy Selected Properties

I have grieved about this for a long, long time, to now discover the countless of hours I have wasted not knowing this. All I can say is:

            HOLLY COW!!!!!!

THANK, YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

              Mike,
Your reaction is similar to mine when I discovered the Object Explorer when first learning xBasic!! :D

The Advanced Copy feature is also very beneficial when designing reports I find.

Kinda makes you wonder if there are any other features like these that are unbeknownst to us!

                  Hi George & Mike,

Do yourself both a favor and purchase Cal Locklin's AIMS Group Format program for Alpha Five. It will allow you to change buttons and any other object, changing only the property values that you want changed.

Best money I ever spent on someone else's utility!
