Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Mapped Tables vs. Sets (Selwyn, can you explain?)

In the attached example, there are four "tables" (two standard tables, one set linking those two tables, and one - new in V9 - mapped table linking those two standard tables).

The form "single" displays an embedded browse of one of the standard tables. It has a separately-placed field also displaying value from column 1. When clicking from row-to-row on the browse, the separately-placed field updates (follows) as expected. Good.

The form "set" displays an embedded browse of the set linking the two standard tables. It has a separately-placed field also displaying value from column 1. When clicking from row-to-row on the browse, the separately-placed field updates (follows) as expected. Also Good.

The form "mapped" displays an embedded browse of the mapped table linking the two standard tables. It has a separately-placed field also displaying value from column 1. When clicking from row-to-row on the browse, the separately-placed field DOES NOT update (follow) as expected. BAD.

Is this behavior (aka: lack of functionality) by design? Or am I missing something?

not sure what the bug report is because your attachment does not have forms in it.

mapped tables are not replacements for sets.

they are intended to solve an entirely different set of objectives (as explained in the what's new in v9 document.

      From what's new:

"You can create Forms, Reports, Labels, Letters and Operations for mapped tables just as you would for physical tables."

My 3 forms, each of which includes an embedded browse (where the browse is bound to either a single standard table or set or Mapped Table) certainly seem to be created essentially identically with respect to standard table vs. mapped table. The What's New entry seems to suggest the browse functionality should work the same for Mapped Tables as it does for a standard table. But I'm not seeing that happen (as explained in first post).

I'm not sure why you see no forms in my upload. I've rezipped the database & all files and attached here.

Clicking from row to row on the browse bound to the single table does cause an update to the separately-placed field displaying column one cell contents.

Clicking from row to row on the browse bound to the mapped table does not cause an update.

Perhaps I misunderstand the What's New entry? Shouldn't the Mapped Table example work?

          Selwyn,

I can confirm that I am seeing what Jon is explaining. (different than your doc file) You appear to be in the wrong folder. It should be unzipping to MappedTable, not Mapped_Tables.
