Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    exporting report definitions

I have two companies (called big company and small company) - so two projects in QRB - both using same version of QB. I created an accounts receivable aging report in the small company (project) from the standard QB report "OpenInvoices" - table Qbreport_openinvoices4.

Then, from the small project, I exported my report to a filename using "Export a Report Definition" from the QRB home page; then, from the big project, I tried to import that filename - but got the message "report can't be imported because it is based on the table "Qbreport_openinvoices4" and this table does not exist in the big project.

I don't understand why it doesn't exist - when I refreshed the big company to QRB - the initial and total refresh - the list of tables that failed to be brought over to QRB did not include this table. After the refresh is done and it shows you what tables were refreshed and what tables failed it also asks if you want a report of the results - I said Yes and the report said "tables successfully refreshed (0 tables): There were no tables that could not be refreshed". I have no idea what this means. If I go into the big project now and start to create a report, I see lots of tables to pick from and also see OpenInvoices in green (indicating that it is a standard QB report).

Any advice would be appreciated - please be specific and don't be scared of "talking down to me", as I am as new as new can be and not very experienced at using things like QRB. If it would take too long to respond in writing and you would be willing to help me on the phone, I will call you back so that I incur the charges rather than you.

    Buddy

    Welcome to the QReportBuilder forum.

When you export the report, there are 2 options to use. One is for the report only, the second is for the report and the data. Choose the second option.

Then when you import into the other project, you'll have the data file (data and structure) needed.

That data file will have data from the first project and the data structure. You can then refresh in the new project and the data will now have the proper data in it.

It sounds like you added a table in the first project - perhaps by importing or creating a new table?

    Hope that helps.

      To Al:

Thanks very much - that worked.

Regarding your question at the end of your reply - no, I did not import or create a new table in the first project. I assume the table qrbreport_openinvoices4 has a "4" at the end because I may have attempted 4 times to create my report by using the std. QB Open Invoices report.

I'm signed up for the 10:00 a.m. EST webinar tomorrow (I think my sign-in was successful) so will hold future questions till then.

      Thanks again.

        Glad that worked.

A benefit of asking questions and getting answers here is that it provides a knowledge base for all. And is 24/7...

I look forward to talking to you at the webinar also.
