Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Between Dates

    I have a date field call "actiondate" and two variables defined as dates "V_Startdate" and "V_EndDate". I would like to use the Between function as part of a selection critera.

    between("actiondate",v_startdate,V_enddate)

    When the line is run I get following. Yet if I use this syntax as a filter on the table it works.

    Script:OnFetch line:11
    v_pastfees = TABLESUM("clienthistory.DBF", between("actiondate",V_Startdate,V_enddate),"payment")

    Argument is incorrect data type

    What am I missing?

    thanks,
    tom

      Re: Between Dates

      Same result, since payment is a field name and according the scripts in the help section it has quotes.

      I have also tried using the dtoc function to convert all and some of the items to charater fields. I have also tried converting all to date fields (ctod, same result.

      thanks,
      Tom

        Tom

        How about this

        Code:
        dim qfil as c
        qfil=between("actiondate",V_Startdate,V_enddate),"payment")

        v_pastfees = TABLESUM("clienthistory.DBF", qfil,"payment")
        I haven't tried it . I would be easier for you since you have the tables.

          Re: Between Dates

          Change to:
          v_pastfees = TABLESUM("clienthistory.DBF", "between(actiondate,var->V_Startdate,var->V_enddate)","payment")

            Re: Between Dates

            You did not mean to leave the "payment" statement on the end of that correct?

            I ran the following, same result.

            Script:OnFetch line:15
            qfil=between("actiondate",V_Startdate,V_enddate)
            Argument is incorrect data type

              Re: Between Dates

              Sorry about that - I was cut and pasting and forgot to cut payment from qfil.

              I read Gabe's post putting qutotations around the between_date filter.

              Have you tried that?

                Gabriel

                That Didn't work but I think I found it.

                v_pastfees = TABLESUM("clienthistory.DBF","BETWEEN(actiondate,{" + DTOC(v_startdate) + "},{" + DTOC(v_EndDate) + "})", "payment")

                This runs, I still have to check if it's adding correclty.

                Thanks,

                    That does not sound right. You will probably get the wrong results.

                    The expression I gave should work barring any other unknowns, meaning: attach a zip file.
                    Or you could try:

                    v_pastfees = TABLESUM("clienthistory.DBF", "between_date('actiondate',var->V_Startdate,var->V_enddate)","payment")

                      Re: Between Dates

                      Just tested the expression, it works:
                      Code:
                      t=table.open("appointment")
                      dim start as d={01/01/2008}
                      dim end as d={12/31/2008}
                      ?between(t.s,start,end)
                      = .F.
                      ?tablesum("appointment","between(s,start,end)","no")
                      = 91985

                        Gabriel,

                        I can't that solution to work, but the one I posted does work. It might be that I'm pulling dates from the form and not hard coding them. I'm off to try an entirly different approach now.

                        Thanks for the help.
