Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Unable to save Grid Web Component

When I create a grid in the Web Projects toolbar, I'm receiving the following error upon trying to save:
    "Script:UI_DLG_BOX:@=wcb_title_var_130059663 line:134
    save(lv)
    Array index out of bounds"

    I'm running version 8, Build 1980
    System Addins: Build 3163

And it is installed on a Windows XP box.

    My license is activated.

I've tried "Save As" and get the same result. I tried different names for the grid. Any ideas?

First, post your web-related questions in the correct forum.

Second, try opening and saving or saving-as a grid or two that comes in the A5 samples.

Third, try the simplest-possible, one-field grid against a very simple table.

Do you have an illegal name (of the grid or the table?) Details, we need details.

Oh, and welcome to A5 and the message board!

I'm in the Alpha Five development environment. So I didn't think I was posting a "web-related" question.

I've created and saved other grids successfully.

I though of that prior to posting and tried "test" as a name. Same error. Prior to posting, I have also: 1. Stopped Alpha Five; restarted. Same error. 2. Rebooted. Re-created the same grid, using a different name. Same error.

The grid is created over a MySQL 5.0.21 view. I'm using an AlphaDAO object to access the data. The fields come over fine in the GridBuilder "Fields" step; I can see them, and the definitions are identical to the MySQL DB.

The MySQL view is named 'opentickets' and I have tried 'tickets', 'opentickets', 'test', and various other names for my grid.
The view has the following fields: status, id, supporter, user, platform, short, description, update_log.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the error. In the background you can see the names of the fields.

Re: Unable to save Grid Web Component

I changed the Query (AlphaDAO) portion of the Grid definition to use this SQL Select statement:
            "SELECT opentickets.status, opentickets.id, opentickets.supporter, opentickets.short, opentickets.groupid FROM opentickets opentickets"

And it works, I can save the grid. However, if I add ANY additional column from the table to the select statement, I get the original error, no matter what the name of the column or what the column type is.

Apparently, I'm running out of space somewhere in the AlphaDAO definition.

Re: Unable to save Grid Web Component

Today, for the first time, I ran into this issue. Same system V8 Web App. I agree that it appears to be some limitation on var size and/or memory in general. The error message is the same as yours upon save.

              1. I'm using a view with a parent table of a dozen fields. I have 3 child tables linked in one-to-one that create a simple conversion from a code in the parent table to a display-text for my grid. All 3 tables do the same type of thing for different fields in the parent table (different short-hand codes needing to be displayed as text in grid).
              2. The original 3 tables and the parent work fine, grid functions normal.
              3. I add a 4th small conversion table and link it to an additional field in the parent and can not save the grid. This 4th table is no differnt (as far as I can tell so far).
              4. I can remove the 4th table from the view and can then save again.
              5. Thinking I had a table and/or field naming issue I made small versions of both and recreated a small 5th test table with only 3 records. Same results. I shorten the names of the table and fields to <8 char's (simple as it gets). Same results.
              6. I also tried linking to differnt fields in the parent table as a test also. I wanted to make sure I didn't have something odd thing between var types etc. Same results. I can save without the 4th/5th tables, but not with either added into the view.
              7. Stumped at the moment, will do more testing.

              Thanks, Andy

Find the Application Server forum, this is the Desktop area.
                There can be only one.

Stan- I realized this was not the Web App Server area. The only reason I posted it here was because the original thread was wrongly posted here. I searched the App Server area first and did not see anything related, thus the posting to this thread; in hopes that Wade (the person which had the original issue) had an answer by now. I'll re-post in Web server area. BTW: My general search to the Alpha message board found this link initially.
