Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Formatting display of number field in a dialog

I know I am probably missing something very obvious, but where do I set the display format of a number field in a dialog, i.e., when the user types 150 in to a number field, I want it to display as 150.00

      Hi Gary,

I just loaded up an example from the messageboard involving the web (I know basically notta about the web) but sure seems that when you select your dialog and then choose the Edit button you can choose the field you want to set the format and in the far right hand screen is a Display Format area with a button--click the button and then choose Select Predefined Format and what you want is in there....least it sure seems like it is.

Can't. It's a text box and there are no 'mask' options. That's an HTML restriction.

But you can validate that the user did type in a specific number of decimals, giving an error if they try to submit inaccurate information. You can also provide an example with "000.00" in the Initial Value. See validation for Fixed Decimal. You probalbly also can find javascript.

Mike - you're looking at Grids, which have a format option selection.

Yes Steve, when you mentioned it I checked and danged if the example I am looking at had dlg as part of its name even though it was a grid!!! :) Bad example I guess!!

But along with the validation and also the initial value how about using the calculated value of the field/100...not quite but close to what Gary wants. Seems to work here. If I am wrong in this case I guess I will hang it up for any web questions and will wait til I do more in it...think it may be a wise choice anywho and stick with what I know more about. :)

LATER: If what I did does work then use ltrim(str(Wages,19,2)) instead as then when 150 is put in the textbox it displays as 150.00, 150.2 results in 150.20, ....

Mike - commenting on items you don't know about is the BEST way to learn, I really mean it and encourge you to continue. BUT, under those conditions you absolutely have to check and test before posting; taking nothing for granted.

It was not that long ago that I didn't know squat about the WAS. But I responded to lots of questions anyway, after fully testing my solution. I still do that today, even on this post where I absolutely knew Dialogs don't have format properties. When I don't test, and especially when I am sure of myself, damn if I am not often wrong. It's imperative (I believe) to post tested responses here because dozens of other's will come along and follow any advice that looks promising, even if it is wrong.

              Mike and Steve,

              Thanks for your replies.

For Mike specifically: I appreciate your response, because any response, tends to stimulate other responses, and that gets a dialog going, which usually leads to a solution.

For Steve specifically: I understand what you are saying. Let me ask you this though. It seems to me that this is a fairly reasonable thing to want in an application. May I ask what you would do in such a situation?
