Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Brand new install does not work QODBC Expired Evaluation

I've just downloaded and installed QReportBuilder for the first time on my PC.

I configured QODBC using the QReportBuilder QODBC Data Setup Screen application that was installed with QReportBuilder

When I click on the Test connection button I get a dialog box which states that the QODBC Expired Evaluation.

Why is this and how do I get round this issue?

    Andy

What is the QB version, year, country, and edition that you are using?

Did you previously trial QODBC prior to QReportBuilder?

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

You can use the demo data that is included without having to use the QODBC link to get to your data. That is offered not as an excuse, but a way for you to continue to trial until we figure out the issue.

I know you want to look at your data and you will.

Edit: Of course another option is to use a different computer. Seems like most people have multiple machines these days... ;)

Re: Brand new install does not work QODBC Expired Evaluation

To the best of my knowledge my PC has never previously has a trial of QODBC or QReportBuilder installed.

Actually I have purchased a copy of QReportBuilder and although the key provided was accepted by QReportBuilder I am unable to use that key to activate QODBC.

I am using the UK version of QuickBooks Accountant 2006 (Version 10 Release R9P)

I've also attached a couple of screen shots which show the error

The first screenshot is from the About tab and shows that the evaluation period has 29 days remaining.

After clicking the Test Connection button I get a window which states that the Evaluation has expired!

I've passed this forward to the tech staff..

QRB should be using a different instance of the QODBC so it shouldn't be connected to any QODBC trial.

Typically there is no configuration needed for QRB and QODBC... I wonder if something got set incorrectly...

I had an issue with another user yesterday on a VISTA machine( not a normal occurrence) and couldn't figure it out. So we tried another VISTA machine that the user said was configured just like the first one. QRB/QODBC worked flawlessly on the second machine...

Do you have another machine to try this with?

The PC is running XP SP2.

Can't you provide me with a working serial number for QODBC as there is clearly something not right with the existing license.

I've done a search on the QODBC KB and there was a problem reported with licensing relating to the country version of QB. As I understand it for QODBC it is necessary to specify the country variant of QB when installing QODBC. This was not the case for QRB. Could this have something to do with the problem?

You've mentioned that you're testing via the QODBC setup screen.

As I said, you shouldn't have to deal with the QODBC setup screen.

Have you tried refreshing the company table from QRB?
It should be a short refresh - 1 record.

edit: in addition, what are your windows regional settings?

I've tried another PC and get the same error.

                1) Install QB
                2) Apply updates
                3) Check QB is running OK with live data
                4) Install QRB
                5) Launch QB
                6) Launch QRB
                7) Click Update Now button and select a single table

                Get same error message

                Not very impressed

I sent you a private message with a 30 trial code for QODBC. Let me know if that clears the problem.

Also, please look at the system DNS information to see if the drivers installed properly.

I've attached an image of what is on my machine for you to compare with.

                      Hi,

I know this is an old thread, but it looked appropriate...

I have installed the evaluation version of QReportBuilder and get the same problem - expired evaluation version of QODBC.

I've previously evaluated v8 qodbc (which is why I'm now looking at QRB ;)). Tried removing the driver and installing v9, but no luck (and not surprised, either).

My setup is QBi 2009-2009 Premier (Australia) running on XP SP3.

                      Any tips for new players?

                      TIA

                      Chris

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with this. I'll try to get an answer for you in the next 24 hours...

I think it's today's evening here, and tomorrow's morning there, so I won't try to say I'll have the answer today or tomorrow - too confusing for me... ;)

The resolution to the expired trial issue is to download a couple of small files that update the QODBC driver.

Please use this link if you have trouble with the QODBC driver.

                            Thank you for your patience.

I plan to download / install the drivers tomorrow.
