Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Filtering Help

I have a report based on a set that has two tables Customers and Customer Locations within it. What I am trying to accomplish is when printing a report for a customer, select a customer from a drop down box and subsequently select location(s) to run the report for. I can do this, but would like to filter the location selection on just locations for the selected customer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Travis

    Re: Report Filtering Help

    Someone could
    1. try to describe the process
    2. create a sample database and demonstrate a solution
    3. take your sample database and demonstrate a solution

    Which seems the most likely?
    There can be only one.

      I would go with 3. :-)

      I have attached a sample.

          Re: Report Filtering Help

          Stan,

As always thanks for your assistance. However it isn't quite what I am looking for.

Your example still allows me to select locations that aren't part of the selected customer.

I am trying to have the user click the button to launch the report and be prompted with selection options.

          1. Customer
          2. Customer Locations (multi-select) <--This second option should only display locations that belong to the customer selected in #1.

          Does this make sense?

          Thanks,

          Travis

              Stan,

Very close. Is it possible to also see the Customer name and Location names on the drop-down?

Also, how would you recommend implementing this in an interface. In the past all my reports would be buttons on a menu that when pressed would launch the print/preview option with my filter criteria held within.

I can't thank you enough for helping me with this.

I am nearing the end of an application that has consumed 90+ hours and I am down to report creation to finish it!!

              Thank you.

Can't speak to the interface you might choose. This sample displays the names desired.

                  Re: Report Filtering Help

Ok, this works better. The only problem being that unless the end user knows all the id's they don't know which they are picking until the select it, which will end up being hundreds of entries.

Is there a way to select by Customer Name and Campus-Dept name and still accomplish the proper filtering?

                  Thank you.

                      Stan,

That works very well. One more question. Can the Campus-Dept selection be a multi-select (I didn't see the option in the field properties)?

Many of the reports I would be running for customers will require me to run specific departments.

Example for New England Rehab Hospital. They may need a report depicting all departments at their Andover site, etc.

I can't thank you enough for the help you have provided.
