Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    *ANY function

    In the past I've had problems with spammers using my "Send To Friend" and other emailable pages to send messages using "bad words." I'm attempting to create a simple script that will stop the email process from proceeding and go to a warning page instead.

    This is what I'm working with:
    if *ANY(currentform.Controls.Message.value,lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\Badwords","Recnum= 1","Badwords"))
    Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
    else...

    Also tried without "value":
    if *ANY(currentform.Controls.Message,lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\Badwords","Recnum= 1","Badwords"))
    Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
    else...

    If I place a bad word directly into the script, it works:
    if *ANY(currentform.Controls.Message.value,"s***") <---Obviously didn't spell the entire word here.
    Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
    else...

    Interactive Window displays all words correctly in the badwords field.

    Also tried many other combinations...

    Thanks for ideas!

    Eric,
    I do believe that the *ANY() function takes a string as an argument and not a list. You may want to try Occurs_words().

    http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...RS_WORDS().HTM

    EDIT:*ANY() is also case sensitive which would make your list at least doubly long.

    Containsi() may also work for what you want.

      Re: *ANY function

      Hello Mike,

      Tried:
      dim Badwords as c = alltrim(lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\Badwords","Recnum= 1","Badwords"))
      if containsi(currentform.Controls.Message.value,Badwords)
      Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
      else...

      This didn't work.

      I've tried entering the bad words separately and also with a coma. (**** **** and ****, ****)
      Also, in case this helps, the badwords field is character, not memo.

      PS: Regarding *ALL(), the case sensitive part is really no big deal. There aren't that many "bad words" are there? :)

        Eric,
        Is your "Badwords" list
        A character string containing words separated by space characters
        which is what containsi() needs

        Why not make it a crlf list and use occurs_words() ?

          Sorry--Didn't know you did not have a list but are referring simply to a field. Will come back to this ....

          later: Try just occursi(currentform.Controls.Message.value,Badwords) then.

            Because I have several dialogs I would like to implement this with. If I had a list, I would have to edit each dialog each time I found a new bad word. The method I'm attempting would allow me to just go to the "badwords" field in my badwords table and add the new words, affecting all my dialogs at once.

            dim Badwords as c = alltrim(lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\Badwords","Recnum= 1","Badwords"))
            if occursi(currentform.Controls.Message.value,Badwords)
            Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
            else...
            Didn't work. Taking "value" out didn't work either.

            Trying your suggestion below...

              Oops--forgot to mention that occursi() returns the number of occurances so try
              Code:

              if occursi(currentform.Controls.Message.value,Badwords)>=1

                Relooking at what you have--you have the arguments backwards in the *ANY() function---the field should be first and the search string second...but it is case sensitive so would think you would want to use one of these other functions instead....

                  Just tried this:
                  if *any(alltrim(lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\Badwords","Recnum= 1","Badwords")),currentform.Controls.Message.value)
                  Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
                  else...
                  Didn't work.

                  Tried your other suggestion above and

                  if occursi(currentform.Controls.Message.value,alltrim(lookup("[pathalias.adb_path]\Badwords","Recnum= 1","Badwords")))>=1
                  Currentform.RedirectTarget = "BadWords.a5w"
                  else...

                  Update: For some reason it isn't sending to the correct page BUT it no longer is sending an email. So half is working...I think.

                    Eric,

                    As I am just guessing without having the tables here I would break it down starting very simply with a literal as you did with the *ANY() function and just with occursi() and the word in the interactive making sure it returns the correct number of occurences. Then add a bit more....

                      Re: *ANY function

                      As Mike suggested... baby steps..

                      I think you should look at *at_multi() instead of *any()
                      ie

                      find_these_words = "bad,worse,terrible"
                      find_these_words_crlf=comma_to_crlf(find_these_words)
                      search_in_string = "this is an example of using a bad word"

                      ?*at_multi(find_these_words_crlf,search_in_string)
                      = 31

                      Since you are filtering in the lookup to get just record 1 are all of the bad words in a single record?

                          Prepare the arguments for the function as variables so you can see the variables in debug() or ui_message_boxes prior to the function being called.

                          It saves a lot of time later on trying to figuure out what is really in the arguments....
